Question The bottom half of my hair is frizzy and dry, what to do?

Hi,
I just recently started the Curly Girl method, after straightening my hair and wearing mostly ponytails for 10 plus years! I am letting it be curly now, and am struggling with the bottom half of my hair. The top half of my hair is responding well to the curly girl method, getting healthy curls, but the bottom half is still dry and frizzy and not very curly. Is the answer to cut it off?

I am using Loreal sulfate free cleansing conditioner for my wash, then I have been going back and forth between using Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition and Burts Bees shiny grapefruit as a rinse out leave in conditioner. Then I have been putting a little gel in and scrunching with a t shirt, and then plopping my hair for 15 minutes. I am not sure what else to try at this point... any suggestions?

Thanks

Have you considered trying a protein treatment? IAGirl has a fantastic PT recipe. It's cheap and easy to make and works really well.

I had mine cut, but not all at one time. If you do an inch every couple of months, eventually it'll be gone without you losing all your length. Protein might be good as these ladies have mentioned. If it's too much for your hair, you can just put it on the ends only. I use Sally's version of k-pak, and it works really well.

Thanks... do you think I should be using something besides just a gel? I notice a lot of people using a curl enhancer?

Curl enhancers have never done much for me. I just put some of my leave-in on the frizzy spots when I need to. Trying a curl enhancer isn't a bad idea though, it could work for you, you never know. Also, my hair looked better when I stopped using gel and started using cream. I've since switched to mousse, but cream is good too, might be another thing worth trying.

I just wanted to let you know that I did the IAgirl PT, and it is what my hair needed! I got the underneath bottom half of my hair to curl, it's a miracle! I also bought the coconut and hibiscus shea butter and mixed it in with my gel as I found on another thread. Love the smell and it seems to be helping as well.

My hair is still a work in progress, I am a week into the CG method, and I feel like I'm having withdrawls from my straightening iron!! I haven't been able to wear my hair down yet, but am getting a trim on Thursday, and with all that I am learning on here, hoping to have my hair healthy soon!

thanks again for the tips, I appreciate the help!

I think maybe a protein treatment might help.
