Default Protective Hairstyles

Okay so I'm reading all of these threads about protective hairstyles and how it supports hair growth. But I havent seen anyone talk about the shrinkage it does to their hair. Whenever I do a twist out after I wash my hair, my hair goes from my chin all the way up to the middle of my ear, and I HATE IT! I love leaving my hair out and through out the days going past it gets bigger and bigger I love that. But at the same time I want my hair to grow. I'm just wondering do you really need to do a protective hairstyle in order for your hair to grow?

To answer your question, no you don't need to protective style your hair in order for it to grow. But it does help if you don't feel like styling your hair for a while. Like myself, I just braided my hair (with extensions) because I didn't feel like doing my hair for a while. Nonetheless shrinkage occurs normally, its not a much on stretched hair. Hope this helps

I think it's ok to wng til your hair gets to be about shoulder length. Once the hair starts rubbing on your clothing and neck, you might want to consider putting it up to minimize breakage at the tips. So be glad for your shrinkage.. it's built-in end protection!
