Unhappy Why doesn’t my hair like “spritzing”?

I don’t know why but my hair just doesn’t like spritzing…? When trying to refresh my curls, I spritz my hair with water. The end result is a crunchy feeling, and less shiny and soft curls. The only way it works is if I spritz my hair until it’s damp (like 75-80% wet) or pretty much soaked. Is it just me?

Do you only spritz with water? Try aloe vera or one of the spritz recipes on this site. The water alone may be drying your hair out, so may need to mix it with something.

Yes, I tried spritzing with only water but a few times I've used diluted conditioner. Both give me the same effect. I'll try looking for some spritzing recipes though. Thank you!

My hair hates it too. I'm usually left a frizzy mess.

Blame it on the cell phone...

I know for me whether I have "hard water" is a factor in how successful my spritzing is.

Doesn't work for me either unless I actually smooth more product on after I spritz. I tried DevaCurl Mister-Right and got the worst 2nd-day hair I've had in years, even adding my usual stylers didn't work.

I think it could do with whatever product is left on your hair? If a product normally dries crunchy, then spritzing with water will revive the crunchiness. But if it's a product that normally does not get crunchy, spritzing is okay.

I like to spritz with water (or diluted conditioner) and then smooth on some oil to seal.
Jo Somebody likes this.

Default Water Spritzing

For some people water spritzing is not a good idea. When you wash your hair, it gets immersed in water and happily shuts down its search for moisture. But when you spritz, it can throw your hair off balance and potentially block other things from absorbing. If I just put water on my lips all day when they are dry, they would get worse. Our hair needs more than just water, it needs something to protect it so that it does not have to be wet and constantly placed in hydral fatigue. I would suggest oiling your hair with grapeseed oil and only moisturize when needed. Co-washing is a great way to moisturize rather than water spritzing.
