I'm documenting my use of hair products. If anyone has suggestions/info I'd sure appreciate it! (Oh, and this is a LONG post!)
I must admit that I am (sort of) a product junkie. Right now, in my cabinet, I have Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, CURLS Creme Brulee, KCKT, GF Pure Clean gel, Eco Styler Olive OIl gel, and random conditioners, such as Garnier Fructis S&S (non-reformulated), Garnier Fructis TN (reformulated), Tresemme Naturals Avacado Condish, Infusium 23 moisture conditioner, various Suave Naturals conditioners, and The Organix sulfate free shampoos (Moroccan Argan oil, and Coconut). I'm getting a little off-topic, but anyway, only a few of these products work:
The reformulated conditioners don't work, and don't spread easily. I find that the TN makes me itch, but I don't know why. The non-reformulated S&S works the best! The Pure Clean gel is AWESOME! Makes my hair frizz free after I scrunch out the crunch!
Infusium 23 Moisture:
Contains amodimethicone, but my hair likes this conditioner!
Too light for my hair, but works as a co-wash.
Organix sulfate free shampoo:
The Coconut one was EXTREMELY drying! The Moroccan Argan oil is a bit better.
Kinky Curly Knot Today:
My hair loves this! I use it after I wash and apply the Tresemme Avacado Conditioner. Heaven! My hair has lots of shine if I follow up with my GF Pure Clean gel. Third day hair, here I come!
Have only tried the Avacado one. Works well as a leave in. Not so much as a rinse out.
Eco Styler Gel:
Thumbs down to the Olive Oil one. After applying my leave in, I used this in place of the GF Pure Clean gel. Horrible! It left white particles all over my hair and hands. When it dried, the white specks were still there. This happened also with the Eco Styler Krystal gel.
CURLS Creme Brulee:
Smells heavenly, like vanilla cupcakes, but didn't really do anything for my hair.
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie:
A little too heavy. I used it and my hair felt a bit product-y. Don't really care for this one. (I used the Styling Milk version, it was a bit better. Oh, and the Restorative Conditioner, aka., the yellowish one, made my hair stiff).
I think that's it! My hair is also low/normal/high porosity. It seems as if all of my strands have different properties! The curls at my nape are looser, almost 2c/3a, and are the most moisturized ones. The curls at my crown are tighter, basically 3b/3c, and the driest/frizziest. The looser curls exist near my temples and along the hairline. This is odd for me! My hair also can tolerate protein. Doesn't love it or hate it. My hair also feels odd if I dampen it and apply product to refresh it. But that might just happen because the products I use.
Does anyone have hair similar to mine? I know my hair is complicated, so I doubt that anyone does.
I'm just tired of struggling to deal with my curls. I'm always trying to find products that are very moisturizing, but don't have a lot of protein in them. It's getting frustrating! It seems as if *Moisturizing + Not too much protein + Affordable = 0* You've probably heard this before, but there isn't much I can say.
have possible product recommendations?
Curly and PROUD!!!
My hair has a mix of low/med/high porosity, and it's medium textured (some are still fine, though!)
