What has happened to my hair???
Ugh! I've been CG for 4 months now. I was seeing great results even up to a couple weeks ago and suddenly my curls have gone haywire!!!
I have gone from big bouncy clumpy 3a curls to I have no idea what! My curls are now skinny and about the diameter of a crayola marker and have no spring and are limp! My hair constantly feels dry and producty it is normally very fine and very porous, and my current routine is:
Cowash with tressemme naturals nourishing moisture, rinse, reapply for RO or use loreal evercreme. Then while soaking wet, apply bronner bros. hair lotion, followed by deva styling cream, and then a quick once over of LALS. Scrunch, finish with SIF. This was giving me beautiful curls until one day my hair just freaked
What could have gone wrong?? And ideas??
(rotating).

Do you know your hair properties? If you have them in your siggy, I apologize I can't see them. The reason I ask is, depending on your hair properties, you may either be overconditioning or not getting enough protein, which can contribute to limp curls or your curl pattern being reduced. For example, my fine hair relies on protein and if I either gave it too much oil/butter/general moisture or didn't give it enough protein, my 2b waves could be reduced to 2a/1c (or as one member says, just "bendy pieces"). So basically, it really depends on your hair properties.

What kind of PT do you do? I try to do one every week but that usually gets pushed back to once every 2-3 weeks so I do IAgirl's PT and leave it on for 30 mins to an hour with a shower cap on. Then I do a 10 min DT with GVP Conditioning Balm and it works better for my hair. But since your hair is also porous, you may also benefit from an extra long PT.

Kimmi-- I use kpak, which I know is sort of a "light" PT but it's always worked good for me. Put on, cover, and leave for 20. I will try leaving it a little longer! Is it possible I need a different DT for after? Maybe my DT sucks lol!! Thanks for all your help

I would suggest trying leaving yours on longer this time and if it doesn't work, maybe trying IAgirl's next time? And what DT do you use?

Have you added anything to your product list that contains any kind of oil? That might be the issue. Oils have a way of making it stringy if you go beyond the welcomed timeframe for using it. Try doing oils maybe once a week and focus back on moisture enrichment the other times.
Also, you will want to low poo more often if you start getting stringy, thin, and limp clumps.

I had a feeling my hair needed more protein, or I should say a stronger PT. I didn't feel like cooking up a PT this weekend (haven't felt that great), so I decided to dump a good bit of Neutral Protein Filler in with the amount of GVP K-Pack I was going to use. I mixed it together and smothered it onto damp hair, wrapped my head in a plastic cap/towel, and stuck a heating pad on top. I left it on for an hour and my hair felt wonderful afterwards. I didn't even need a DT. :]

Kimmi-- I am using biotanicals hydrating balm... Starting to thing that I need something different maybe, with more moisture?
Princeton-- I started using bronner bros oil and aloe hair lotion a couple weeks ago, but my hair is not weighed down by oil, if anything it is dryer than the Sahara!! :/

@JJPNW, I can't find that product; what are the ingredients in it? If it's a bunch of oils, you might need to switch to something a little lighter since you have fine hair (that might be why your hair is getting weighed down/losing its curl).

I second a lot of what's already been mentioned here (low-poo to reset, more PT- my fine hair has yet to OD on protein and I use as my RO products that lots of people use for PTs, plus do IAGirl's PT regularly.
My question- when was the last time you got a trim? I found that the trick with keeping my curls looking bouncy all day was that I needed more layers. The weight of my hair was pulling out the curl. Since getting it cut I can air dry and get the type of curls I had to diffuse to get before.

You probably just need to low poo to remove some build-up from the oils and the DC Set It Free(beeswax).

Wow! So now I know....
We had been having some nice weather for a while. As soon as it went back to rain, my hair was great again! So not sure what I need to do differently when it's nice, but I know that's what it was!
