I'm so frustrated. (2nd day hair woes)
I can finally get good 1st day hair but 2nd or 3rd day - forget it! I'm not sure if I'm 3a or 3b (and not sure it makes much of a difference) but I really need to solve this because otherwise, I have to do a roller set which straightens my hair for about 4 days. It never looks great - it actually looks better curly but only for one day! [groan]
I'm trying to go CG - that's how I get good 1st day hair. Yea! My hair is too short to pineapple, and I use a satin pillowcase. If you have any great refresher sprays for 2nd/3rd day, please let me know. I just don't have time to go through the whole routine again every 2nd and 3rd day.

I can never get 2nd day hair either. Once you learn what routine works, you'll find it goes faster over time & becomes...well, routine lol. Curl type doesnt matter but hair properties do, but idk how much when it comes to 2nd day hair. I have mine figured out & it doesnt matter. Tried sleeping on a satin pillowcase?

Word. I use satin head cover and it cuts off circulation and it's hot. Plus my hair gets messed up in it

I also can never get second day hair. I pineapple at night before bed, but by the morning, when I take it down, I don't have uniform curls, just a limp, frizzy bird's nest (eeekkk!) I toss and turn in bed so much at night, I think this probably has a lot to do with it! I have to wash/style every day for it to look half decent, although fortunately my hair hasn't suffered any ill effects from doing this (my hairdresser always tells me it's in pretty good condition, thankfully! )

Thanks a lot for the responses.
I had washed my satin pillowcase and that may be why my hair was particularly bad these past few days - I forgot to put it back on. I'll buy another so I have a spare when washing the first one.

I get second day hair about 95% of the time (as in, take off my sleep cap, fluff/rearrange hair that's out of place and I'm done) -- as long as my first day routine uses good products for my hair.
The secret for me is the satin sleep cap -- I have a cheap one ($2 or so, from either Wal-Mart or Sally's) and it has a wide, soft band that doesn't bite into my forehead. It's really comfy...I just look ridiculous in it. Luckily my husband doesn't mind!
Anyway, if my first day products weren't the best (or I didn't use enough of them) I can end up with second day hair that needs some work. I've played around with adding product (so far I've not found anything that really helps), a refresher spray (Moisture Mist from Shescentit and Spiral Solutions Protein spray both work well in my hair) and just plain water, which is what I usually go to. I just spritz it on lightly and it revives the product already in my hair. Sometimes I smooth Emollience (Spiral Solutions) over any super frizzy areas.
Generally though, I can get second and third day hair with no extra fussing just by wearing the sleep cap and spending 5 minutes rearranging my hair after I take it off the next morning. It has saved me a lot of time!!

I don't bother trying for 2nd day hair anymore. My personal theory is that it's much harder to get multiple decent hair days if your hair is fine, shorter, and doesn't have a strong curl pattern. Spritzing anything on my dry hair just results in clouds of frizz, so I don't bother with that, either. I either re-wet it each morning or I put it up as best I can. Sorry I'm not much help!

ITA. My hair is fine and short. Curl pattern is pretty strong, but its all squashed by morning anyways.

JLeighs and IC, you guys made me chuckle - so that's always helpful.
But ever optimistic, I'm going to try Wendi.Wendi's sleep cap idea - and use it in addition to the satin pillowcase. Also, going to indulge my voracious pj and buy those sprays. I swear, I could open a drugstore with my stash. I'll be broke with good hair (I hope).
We'll see... thanks a lot everyone for chiming in. It helps to know I'm not alone.

I now get 2nd and 3rd day hair consistently thanks to LOOB. It's sticky so it helps reform clumps and smooth down canopy frizz and not so hard like gel or mousse which leaves my hair stringy/crunchy on 2nd day. Refreshers only made my hair frizzy and poofy once dry.

Cuban - I can't find LOOB. I was told it was taken off the market. Where do you find it?
Meanwhile in another thread (just above or below this one) someone suggested drying hair at night with loads of gel and sleeping with it crunchy. Then in the a.m. she says it comes out nice! I'm going to try that also. The satin pillowcase I have helps, but not enough.

As far as I know/can tell LOOB has not discontinued. I've seen it at target, cvs, Walgreens even Publix. It's easy to miss because it's a small black tub. Nothing that jumps out at you. The "look" of the tub changed but that's about it.

I just tried this today:
Sprayed my hair down completely with water, combed out everything, raked in my stylers, scrunched and BAM, decent 2nd day hair. My curls weren't as "clumpy" as they are on 1st day, but not as frizzy as they usually are using my other 2nd day routine. I got my hair pretty wet, but not dripping. This way the drying time was cut waaay down.

When I comb out my hair, I usually end up with more frizz. Glad you had a good hair day, anyway!
Someway, somehow, I'm going to figure out how to get decent 2nd day hair. (cockeyed optimist here).

I just bought this today from Walgreens to see if it will help with 2nd day hair when it's humid/high dews as it will be all week and weekend where I live (we're getting crap weather from the tropical storm passing by), ugh. I'm really getting frizzy, Alba cream is just not cutting it for 2nd day hair or even first lately.
Do you put the LOOB directly on dry hair, or dampen your curls that need help first?

I add water to my hands and just smooth over canopy and the outer layers of my hair (areas exposed when pineappling). Hair is barely damp and just outer layers. I then stick my finger tip in the LOOB and spread that in my palms (add a bit more water to help spread it) and go over those same outer layers/canopy. Hope that makes sense.
I'll warn you though, it'll look stringy and not great initially. It's usually dry by the time I get to work and I gently scrunch it then. Hope it works for you!

Diaspora, let us know if it works for you. I'll try anything!
When the dews aren't that high, I give up and straighten my hair using a roller set, because that way I get more days out of it. I like the look of my first day curls better, but I just don't have time to go through the whole routine.
The satin pillowcase helps, but not enough. I may try a harder hold gel the first day.

I did something similar to this today; sprayed my hair with a spray bottle until it was very damp and finger combed. Then I smoothed some FSG over my hair and scrunched it into the ends. I had pretty good 3rd day hair this way (had great 2nd day hair yesterday, don't know why - must have been from good first day products).

Thanks, Cuban curl E, I'll try it that way and report back to your thread, Curlypearl. It's good to know it will look weird until it's dry. Some products are like that.
Before I read this, I applied a little to some of my dry hair and didn't get good results. One piece of hair is stringy and hard and the other section just kinda frizzed up again. It would truly need to be a miracle product if it could help my end-of-2nd-day-bad-weather-hair though.
