Question DevaCurl - Frizzy hair after it's dry

Hello all this is my first time posting here!

I recently started using DevaCurl, I had always used Mixed Chicks. I use No-Poo, One Condition and AnGel. I follow all the directions by running my fingers through my hair with the one condition and leave some in and I've even rinsed it all out. Then I use an old T-shirt and scrunch until it's not soping wet but still wet. Then i apply AnGel by scrunching it in and don't touch it when it's dry. Once it's dry I put my finger tips on the scalp and massage it a little. My hair does not stay frizz free after that. I used to have a tight curl and now my curls have loosened up a bit. I just started no shampoo about a month ago and that's when I stated seeing a change. My hair is just not as curly as it used to be. Anybody have any thoughts or advice on how to cut down the frizz? Am i not applying enough or am I applying too much product?

Funny coincidence, since I'm using DevaCurl right now. I am really loving the results.

It might be that you're not using enough of the conditioner on your hair. I make sure to use a somewhat generous amount in it and leave it in my hair for 5+ minutes while I do the rest of my stuff in the shower. Then I GENTLY rinse with cold water, but make sure not to rinse all of the conditioner out. For safety measures, I squeeze a bit of the conditioner again and focus on the ends.

I use Arc Angel. It's a stronger hold gel and I love it. Maybe you need Arc Angel instead of the original Angel.

Around here, Deva is a love/hate line. Many of us started out with it, thought we liked it and moved on to other lines. Even those who really liked it when they started had issues once the ingredients changed a few years ago. I find the NoPoo drying. They have it at the salon I go to; however, I won't let them use it. I bring my own products.

Default Glad to hear others are having issues

The first few times I used Deva I like it.....a lot and loved the end results of how my hair looked. Now, not so much. Belive me I use more then enough conditioner and more then enough gel. Once it's dry they say to scrunch to "activate" the gel. That just creates frizz for my hair! I'll use up the products I have now but once they are gone I'm moving on to something else. That curly girl handbook is something else. I mean, I have a lot of different curl in my hair not just one specific type so I'm like which hair care routine should I use in the shower? Am I using too much conditioner, am I leaving it in too long? I've tried not rinsing it out to rinsing it out and I have the same result everytime. Shouldn't be that hard if the products are as good as they say. I like mixed chicks so I will continue using their products for sure but Deva will have to be put on the back burner for awhile.

It very common to have more then one hair type on your head. Hair properties are more important then curl type when determining ingredients/products to use. Here's a link to help you with yours Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics Once you determine your hair properties, look for folks with hair like yours and see what they use. It's the best place to start.

Everyone's hair is different. A lot of this is trial and error to see what products and techniques work for you. The DVD that comes with the newer version of the CG book is great for learning how to style your hair. I could never use all of the product that the models use.

I just ordered and received the CG book about a week ago so it may be the newer version you are talking about. It just seems that Deva is wearing my hair down. It may be because I'm not used to the no poo thing. I've had naturally curly hair all my life and I've always tried new products. Idk. I will start with that website and take it from there!

I love Deva Curl!! I am loving it so much! I originally had the trial kit of AnGel and the no poo, conditioner and set it free spray and I loved everything about it! But it had gotten a tad frizzy as well so my mom went and bought me a huge $70 kit of everything, full size of NoPoo and Arc AnGel an Set Up & Above styler, Mist-ter Right spray and I'm going to try it on Wednesday so I'll comment back saying if I found Arc AnGel more effective 😉

I used Deva for 6 weeks when I decided to go CG and it's just not working. Leaves my hair frizzy after "scrunching" out the gel. I tried Organix the other day with LALSG and LOVE IT! I really love not needing so many products. Kinda sucks because I have so much One Condition and Arc Angel left

Default DevaCurl

Devachon taught me to style in the shower and squeeze out excess water with hands (this my hair loves). Deva methods are mighty intuitive...Deva PRODUCTS, on the other hand, can be my enemy (hair hates hops). Too rich of a product for me...which is why Sheamoisture and Carol's Daughter also yield bad results. DevaCurl either left my hair dry and frizzy or producty and terribly matted. AnGel was ok...but I had to stop it with the gels; I enjoy having hair with movement.
