Pomade you recommend?
I think I'm a cross between 3a & 3b and would like recommendations for a pomade or finisher for very humid weather. If you don't use it, do you have a different type product that you use? Do you use it on dry hair or wet?

I know Jane Carter Nourish & Shine has positive reviews, but it's kind of pricey. Also, Kinky Curly Gloss Pomade has good reviews.

I've seen 'pomade' used to describe either a slick, oil/butter-based product (often to SOTC) or a sticky product to slick/stick hair down, so I'm going to mention two completely different things that could both be called pomades.
For SOTC, taming frizz and adding shine, I love Spiral Solutions Emollience and also Jane Carter Nourish & Shine. I always use them on dry hair. They are butter/oil products that don't make my hair feel weighed down.
I also use Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste (which is labeled as a pomade). I think it's meant to slick your hair down but I don't really wear my hair pulled back. I did try it on dry hair and it didn't work well for me that way (it is VERY sticky); I scooped out a little bit and then wet my hands, mixed it around and scrunched it in. It left my hair feeling too producty.
BUT...I tried it again as a replacement for my curl cream step (after leave-in, before gel) on sopping wet hair, and it is amazing. Totally kills frizz, adds lots of shine and control -- and I just use a tiny amount, maybe the size of a lima bean.
So, it's a pomade but I don't use it that way.

Hi Wendi.wendi. You just activated my inner pj which is always lurking. I like what you did with the Curl passion fruit pomade, so I'm going to have to buy some and try that method.
Thanks so much for the great response. I have something by Spiral Solutions - have to see if it's what you mentioned and I have a sample of Jane Carter N&S so I'll try that too. But I'll definitely get the Curls pomade and use it as you used it - cool idea!

Thanks for posting SaraNoH. I tried a little of the KC Gloss Pomade in Whole Foods (they were allowing sampling) and I was on the fence about it. I use KCKT and KCCC and they are both fabulous. Maybe I didn't use the right amount.
More research is needed.

I'm relatively new to CG, but I'm a pomade-type product lover, which is problematic as the ones I've loved in the past are not CG friendly.
However, I've recently started using Deva's set up and above. it's not QUITE the pomade feel I like (I tend to like super tacky, emulsify really well and scrunch through, like Bed Head's manipulator) - but I find it works pretty well.
It doesn't give me the hold that some of the waxy products I've used in the past (TIGI S Factor molding wax, or even the bed head wax stick) but it does allow me to scrunch it through to finish up my hair.
I haven't been using this to SOTC though, rather I use it when I'm done diffusing "almost dry" to sort of put things where they need to be. then, when everything is dry I SOTC either with no product or a paste-y concoction of LOOB and BRHG (which could actually work as a pomade...)

Thanks, PerriP. It's funny - everyone and their hair is so different! I hate exactly what you love - tacky feeling pomades. I think I tried Set-It-Up years ago and didn't like it for that reason, but I could be confusing it with something else. Whatever had beeswax in it was the product I didn't like.
I just bought Mop Glisten High Shine pomade. I'll try that and report back.

If you like a waxy pomade feel that is water-soluble, you should check out a product called Lay-rite by Hawlywoods. It's marketed to men, and is produced by a barber shop but 1) it smells like cake batter and 2) it does what it claims... Holds like a wax but rinses clean in water. No 'cones! My husband uses the stuff on his mostly straight hair to get a pompadour look, and it stays really well, and I use it for super sleek looks. Their website where you can order it is http://www.hawleywoods.com

Hi Jewel, that's interesting. Hmmm.
I may just have the type of hair that doesn't like pomades. I've got the first day down - it's just the second day that's a problem. Maybe I need a "refresher" rather than a pomade, but I'll tuck your recommendation into my bottomless pj well and see how long I can withstand the temptation to try it.
Thanks very much for the suggestion and for including the link! - who knows - it might just work. If I buy it, I'll let you know.

Did anyone buy the Lay-Rite? What do you think of it?
I've been having pretty good success with the Mop Glisten High Shine pomade. So far, its the best of the pomades for me.

layrite pomade..
My lay-rite arrived very quickly, I've used it for 3 days.
I like it - not sure if I love it yet, but definitely something I'll probably end up buying again. The drawback for me at the moment is that it makes my hair feel a little gritty - but also think this could be my being heavy-handed so the jury is still out.
It gives me really good hold for my curls and makes my hair really soft. I've also noticed better looking curls in the morning (but I still can't get second day hair - but never have been able to).
I've been using it when I'm done diffusing (about 80% dry) then again to SOTC when my hair is totally dry.
Smell is great, it emulsifies easily in your hands.
Up until now, I've been using Deva's Set Up and Above, and due to price and results, layrite wins for me.

i used the deva set me up and above about two years ago -- it wasn't an HG, but it was reliable in humid weather. i could even put it on dry hair and it would bring back definition. the drawback for me is that for some reason one of the ingredients is yellow coloring, and it did add some yellow to my gray/white hair, and so i stopped using it. if they could only make it without the color additive, i'd buy it again. it was definitely a decent product.

Just reporting back: I like the MOP Glisten pomade better than any other I've used so far. It makes my hair shinier than the Kinky Curly pomade. We haven't had high humidity so far, so I'll say how it works under those conditions. Thanks for all the recommendations!
