I'm having this same problem on my crown. I thought it may just be the weight of my longer curls. I have a deva cut so it is longer on top then anywhere else but I'd like to hear what others are doing.

I diffuse upside down or if I air I flip my head upside down and shake while it's damp but almost dry and that helps me get big hair

i have 3c curls and although i got lots of natural volume, after i wash i notice that it does somtimes dry flat as well, or that the curls just cling to my scalp, if that makes sense? doesnt matter though, what i do to handle this, is i add my condish and oil, when its still realy wet, but not dripping, and a few times during the drying progress i tip my head upside down an move my hair back and forward. i dont touch it, i just get all my hair hanging down. then i go back up and maybe half hour later or so i do it again.
with the volume i got naturally lots of fizz as well, n cause i only use condish and oil as a styling ive learned to live/love the fizz as well. so that doesnt bother me. though i must say the condish and oil does help with the fizz so i dont even notice it any more, but doing that i get nice big defined crazy curls.

Fmasuhr,

I've been doing the cond and oil thing ever since reading post last week when I co wash everyday and I have to say, I like it. I use safflower seed oil (olive make me itchy) and it I do have less frizz even if I start SOTC before I'm completely dry. Thanks, for the idea!

It's just the way that your hair is. My hair has never stood up straight, it always parts naturally in the middle. If I try to make it stand up, it flops to the side. It's just what your hair naturally does. Don't fight it, just let it do what it wants to do or you'll end up frustrated.

After being natural for a second time, I know to stop trying to make my hair do what it doesn't want to do. I expect it to look "flat" and not afro'd out most of the time because that's just not what it does.

My lil trick is if I want big hair I diffuse for about 5-8 minutes and shake upside down and than let the remaining hair air dry.
Also I do not concentrate on the ends of the hair when drying but push up in the root (if that makes sense).
Than once completely dry, I start stretching lightly and shake my hair again.

My wng's dry flat too. I've got two ways to combat that. The first way is to shake it periodically as it's drying. I do my hair then wait an hour or two and shake then wait another hour or so and shake again.

If I have a bunch of meetings and dont have time to shake (can't go whipping my hair around in meetings with clients or potential clients) then im screwed until the next day. In those cases, I will pineapple at night and the next day my hair is perfect. On the weekends I just let it air dry and right before i go somewhere i will pineapple for like 30 minutes and that usually does the.trick.

I read on the 2 board last year how some use duckbill clips while it's drying. You could try that too.

i do that too, i tip my hair upside down and gently shake my curls to get them to "push up". i do it a few times during the drying progress.

Dry your hair while upside down and fluff your roots. Diffusers don't work well for me so I just airdry, you can try a diffuser though.

All you really need to do is use a t shirt to plop or a 100% microfiber towel and scrunch out the excess water after applying your styling products and then let air dry. The more water that's in your hair the less volume you'll have
