second day hair....a myth?

Okay 3bs, whats the deal? My hair doent get second day hair... for me it just doesnt exist. My hair is usually frizzed out by the end of the day. I can wet itt down, but doesn't that defeat the purpose?

What am i missing?

So my dumb question of the day(I'm allowed one... only one) is... for second day hair, are people not washing or wetting it at all? Do they step in the shower?

I always assumed second day hair was for people who didn't shower or used a shower cap for that one day, then maybe spritzed a bit in the morning.

Enlighten me- I'm so confused.

Wow, you just asked the question I've wondered FOREVER!
Does no wash=no getting it wet in the shower, or simply no conditioner/cleanser/etc??
I'll admit- on days when my curls behaved all day(low humidity days), I have been known to skip the shower and in the morning, I spritz with water and call it good.

I typically can't do this. It's so confusing because I see a LOT of praise for second day hair. Mine does better on First day!!

For me, second day hair is not getting it wet. I sleep in a sleep cap, and that works pretty well for me.

But, as you've figured out, you need first day hair to make it to the end of the day to get second day hair.

If it's humid where you are right now, frizz could be from that, especially if your hair is porous.

Im not a 3b, but I will offer some tips from a fellow curly who just started doing day two hair again...

- add more to the areas that give you trouble (or just in general)

- prepare for slightly bigger hair on day two

Also, if I leave a little crunch on day 1, day 2 looks better. Not south crunch that it looks still wet, but not all the way scrunched out.

Try oiling (or gel) just before bed.

2c/3a-M-ii porous, good elasticity, APL, dark brown with a silver lining. Biggest enemy: frizz!
i just wet my hands and put a dollop of gel on them, rub them together and evenly distribute it over the top layer of my hair. then i do a bit of finger styling. this is easier now with hair that is about collar bone length. when it was long, i just twisted and pinned my frizzy bangs back and lightly gelled the rest of it.
3b ringlets. fine texture. normal everything.

No poo: L'Oreal Eversleek Reparitive, Free Spirit Botanicals shampoo bars
Low poo: Tresemme Naturals

Styling products: HEMSU gel, Tresemme Bouncing Curls gel
I get really good second day hair with pigtail French braids and I'm a 3b with fine hair that matts up super easily, also pineappling worked pretty good. But I prefer a shower in the morning's. I just do this if I'm going for an early breakfast or something

I have only been doing it for a couple days now, but I found that doing the pineapple works best, however, living in UT I don't have extremely humid weather and don't have the major frizz factor that I have seen from others. Most likely you may need to just wet it down to get it to work the best for you.
Day 1 I make sure it lasts . So I put a bit more product on it then what is needed. So more controlled hairspray for example. Next day I do shower I do not get my hair wet so I wrap it with a towel . Jump out and tease and fluff with my fingers . And I live In El Paso so no humidity but its what I did in central tax as well as nj
I might be more 3a than 3b (there are days when I think I'm 2c!) but I find getting 2nd day hair the biggest challenge as a curly.

To have to rewet and dry hair on the 2nd day means it is drying out my hair and taking time which I don't have. Not doing it means an undefined, frizzy mess.

ETA My hair is too short to pineapple.
2/c and some 3A.
Protein sensitive but can use occasionally
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
I get second day hair consistently, and sometimes third day hair, but not often. Usually I wear my hair up on the third day.

I'm not as particular as most about a bit of frizz. I kinda like the big hair and volume I get on the second day, but I don't like the fact that my crown is usually flatter.

I wear my hair in a pineapple, or braid, or twist it into a bun for sleep, but the roots go flat regardless.

I wash or wet my hair nearly every morning. My hair looks good throughout the day but by evening I have usually put in up in a pony or bun to go to the gym, I tend to play with it while watching tv, and then I sleep on it. So by the morning it doesn't look good enough for me to wear down. I will sometimes wear it up in a pony the 2nd day but that's not often. I don't like sleeping on wet hair or with my hair in a pineapple and my hair hates having anything sprayed on it so basically, no 2nd day hair for me.

I normally don't get second day hair . . . but I read an article on NC yesterday that suggested that if what your hair needs is MOISTURE, you should just spritz it with water, seal with a little oil, and go.

I tried this this morning -- water in a spray bottle, a drop of Jessicurl Oil Blend for Softer Hair -- and instead of my Day 1 corkicelli ringlets, I have bigger, softer, 3a-type curls! A little frizzy, but not terrible. I think this may work for me! Give it a try, I'd say.
