Growing long curls

Hi all I wanted to ask if anyone had any helpfull tips on growing long curls? I've been reading allot lately about terminal length and i was thinking when I was little through to early teens I had curls all the way to my backside do does that mean I can grow it that long again or does your terminal length change as you get older? Currently I have hair at shoulder length on one side and ear length on the other ( really really bad haircut by a horrible hairdresser!) I'm trying to grow out and long again.
I don't use sulphates or silicones and sleep with a satin cap an don't use heat aswell a use oils and treatments oh and I take silicea
Am I doing enough? Plz help

Anyone managed to grow their hair long after struggling at one length for ages? I'm willing to try just about anything I don't expect an overnight quick fix or anything like that but I desperately want to grow my hair long again and need advice from a knowledgable curly I know if I get my hair to armpit length ( all the way around)it will get heavy and have no problem growing from there I just need advice to get to that length,I'm going to try and trim it myself today cuz I'm poor lol fingers grossed I don't make it worse :)

I had long curls...currently trying to grow then back. I take biotin...use megatek occasionally and was using mn, I'm about to start on mn again...since I stopped I don't notice as much new growth. The first time it probably took about 2 years or so to grow it from shoulders to waist. But I was just discovering cg back then and didn't take quite as good care of my hair as I do now. So I'm hoping it'll be quicker this time.

Ooh also I do scalp massage too

Thanks so much for your reply do you think it's possible to grow my hair long again this terminal length thing has got me worried.
I live in Queensland Australia and I've been chasing this awesome American curly hair revolution for a year now and trying to cg method as much as I can given the limited products we have here but I've been obsessed with figuring my hair out my whole life as no one in my family has curly hair actually i got it from my dad whom ive never met dont even know what he looks like or what nationality he is all i know is I'm the only one in my family with olive skin brown eyes and curly hair (literally everyone in my family has porcelin skin blue eyes and dead straight hair)I'm 23 now I even spent 2 years training to be a hairdresser to figure it out and allot of money later i was totally dismayed that everything I was taught was completely wrong for curly hair.what is mn? what do you do now that you didn't do before when you were learning cg? Thanks for your help I really apreciate it :)

Well I grew up hearing "black hair doesnt grow long unless you keep it long from your childhood", so when I big chopped 2.7 years ago I was pretty sure my hair would take forever to grow and probably never pass my shoulders. Since then, my hair hits my armpits straightened and I'm pretty sure at this rate it could hit my bra strap by late spring at least. It just takes taking care of your hair and not thinking about/forgetting you're trying to grow it out. Lol

You sound like you're doing good things. Like seeds, you just have to wait for your harvest. :P

Thanx so much for replying I'm going to keep on keepin on with my hair and be patient too it's inspirational to talk to other women with curly hair and read other women's curly journeys and finally have a place to ask for advice and tips
I'm going to go get some biotin aswell I've read quite a few women are taking biotin

Another thing about growing hair long is preserving the length you already have. Take good care of your ends.

Hey goddesscurls is mn that coochie cream? Lol only recently read about that,it works? And if so how do you use it? And I looked up the megateck is that the stuff for horses? Does it wrk well? How do you use it? I'm curious about both of these from what I've seen on the net (tho I'm pretty easily fooled) they have good results

I'm 55 years old and I've never had long hair until now. My secret....stop cutting it. It is as simple as that. I get 1/2" trims about 3 or 4 times a year. I started from shoulder length when I joined NC.com 3 year ago and my hair sits at waist when it is curly. If I pull it straight it is near my butt crack. We call that BCL at longhaircommunity.com.

Yeah...it is. It worked well for me...I felt thicker and had tons of new growth...the megatek is for horses...like a protein treatment. People use it on their scalp...but so far I didn't notice much from it. I think I'll keep it an use it for the occasional PT

Flowers of sulfur is good for growing hair quicker. But the main idea is to preserve your ends. I honestly don't believe in terminal length, but I've never experience issues with growing since I stopped cutting it/straightening it. If your hair stops around your shoulders, that's more than likely NOT terminal length--it's probably just breakage. Also curly hair may appear to grow slower since it curls, but if you track growth you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks so much for the tips :) my hair at the moment is hating me cuz I used a defuser 3days in a row (never again ) my hair is so dry no matter what I put in it I've tries morrocan treatments coconut oil avo oil olive oil ahh it's just a nightmare but any who along with trying to fix my hair I went down to the chemist a purchased some daktarin because of the miconazole nitrate 2% in it I'm not sure on how to use it exactly I tried to read up as best as I could on the long hair are comunity I put it on my scalp after a cowash shower not mixt and I felt no tingling like I'd heard it would does that mean it isn't working? Also the women said to leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning so I'm going to wash it out soon but how do you find it works with a cgm routine?

Hi Aussie girl.

What type of curls do u have?

I used to relax my hair & my hair was much longer because I have tight curls & relaxing them effectively stretched them out. Now I'm back to natural & CG.

I bought recently bought some bobeam shampoo bars on etsy & have had good results (in terms of growth) using one bar called herbal roots (I think). I def recommend them tho. You can do a search here and read loads of good reviews/testimonials etc . I don't live in the US but she still sent it out to me.

I was wondering - what kinda products can you get in oz? I was there last year & saw a whole section dedicated to curly hair in Priceline. They had a few ellucence products - gels, conditioner as well as relaxers like optimum etc. I was wondering If you've tried ellucence before.

Well I think I have 3a curls I have been straightening my hair since I was 13 with an iron but for the past year I have been only straightening once a month or every 2 months if I can but since I have been wearing my hair curly more i have days were my curls are tighter than other days some days I have lots of little ringlets and other days my hair clump into bigger ringlets with some s patterns in it too so it vary's.
My hair needs Heeps of moisture also because it's blonde but I only colour with a supermarket colour every 4mnths I don't look very good with brown hair but I'm contemplating wether it would be just easier to dye it brown maybe it would be in better condition? I am currently using a shampoo and conditioner called sukin from an organic store it has no silicones or sulfates no parabins and it's got tons and tons of oils in it jojoba, avo, coconut, rosemary and the list goes on and on lol I leave in the conditioner and only shampoo once a week my hair was doing great till I put a defuser on it I got a bit over zealous because I've never owne one before I've always just air dryed it after blotting with a microfiber towel.
Don't know how To upload a pic because I am using my iPhone and I don't know what it means to enter the pics URL lol in not very tech savvy

Ausiecurl 07-25-2012 06:05 PM

The supermarkets here are awfull if you have curly hair I've noticed you guys get ranges for curly hair in products like Pantene and herbal essences and vo5 ect all products we have here but they don't stock the curly ones you guys have even aldi doesn't stock the ones here you guys have it's horrible it's like product developers just automatically think everyone in Australia has just straight hair and I'm so fed up with straight haired hairdressers and retail sellers telling me I have to have silicones in my products because it's the only thing that makes your hair shiney and soft not to mention looking at me like I'm some dirty hippy lol I mean I was in the hair industry and worked in salons I think there is a place in the market for all types of products but thy don't seem to cater for curly hair or train their staff about curly hair or sell products made by someone with curly hair that knows what curls need it's so frustrating :(

Ausiecurl 07-25-2012 07:08 PM

Btw some grls with naturally straight hair are really nice and try to be helpfull and we look for products together and have a laugh but it's the grls that are almost nasty because I refuse to use products with silicones or sulfates I mean sure some ppls hair is fine with it but it just doesn't work for me

Ausiecurl 07-25-2012 07:17 PM

Oh and I haven't tried or even heard of ellucence before but I'm definitely going to try it hopefully they still have it at Priceline :) which of their products do you like?
Thanks for the tip :) :)

GoddessCurls 07-26-2012 01:16 AM

I like DevaCurl nopoo...I did like Garnier triple nutrition before they messed it up with cones...but their pureclean is cone free...and a good leave in. I use As I Am smoothing cream for hold...that stuff is great....and this olive oil cream hairdress that is cheap...but loaded with all this good stuff...super moisturizing
