Layers? Is it possible to have bigger hair without losing length?

I'm going to get my hair cut soon and i'm considering getting layers. My hair is bsl and i'm not trying to lose any length but i'm looking to have fuller more "playful" looking hair. I currently have my hair all one length excluding the front which I have "bangs" (not anymore) that go down to the middle of my cheek. Should I get long layers or short layers? I don't want the triangle or mushroom effect but I want fuller hair.

I DON'T WANT SHORT HAIR!
I went through the SAME situation a few months ago. I really wanted to try something new with my hair, and I figured layers would be a great idea. My hair type is 3b, so I was so worried about it. I didn't want my hair looking extremely short, because my hair has always been long. When I got my layers done (they were long layers) the hairstylist cut my hair a bit shorter than I had originally wanted. But I ended up living it! So definitely think its something you should try. As long as you specify to the hairstylist that you don't want to lose too much length you should be fine. Hope it works out! (:

They won't make your big as in a huge poof if that's what you mean. But they'll definitely make your hair nice and full. It will give it a LOT of body.
