Fishtail?
Has anyone with SL hair been able to pull this off? I'm sure there are, but guidance and tips would be helpful. Even on doing a side-braid of any kind.
My hair is thick, a little bit BSL, but mostly SL, with 3c ringlets. I can't figure out how to do this style----when my hair is dry, it's almost impossible to sleek down to one side (though two might be possible), and when my hair is wet, I'm terrified of damage.

At least I know that other people are interested in this. Thanks for your post
Also, I just checked your profile photo and noticed the great definition you have! I just switched to a different gel and leave-in, so I'm hoping for better results, but what do you use? I can never get my definition to last the entire day.

Thanks, that was second day hair
I use:
Devacurl No Poo
AOHSR conditioner in the shower-detangle and leave in over night. I always do a wash n go the next day.
After I rinse out AOHSR I use Darcy's Botanicals Curl Styling Cream as a leave in. I love the product but HATE the smell. Next time I will order it without a scent.
I follow up with Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel.
The more moisture my hair has, the better the curls hold up.
You have some pretty curls!

Braiding it while its wet shouldn't hurt that's how a lot of people do braid outs it just might take longer to dry

@EtTu2
I was tempted to try AOHSR, but they changed the formula recently, and the new ingredients are scaring me. Are you using the old formula or new one?

They didn't change the formula. The ingredients list just follows INCI standards now.

Its great stuff! I find that if I leave it in over night, it penetrates better. It is very moisturizing for me. I do tend to use a lot of it though. Try it out, you may like it.

I think I'll try that next then! TJBM does some sort of miracle for clumping my hair properly, but I think I might just mix it with GDI for a leave-in and switch my condish. CJ Smoothing Assurance is okay, but it's not particularly moisturizing, nor does it clump well. It has nice slip though.
On a side note, I think I'll probably try that side braid thing this week sometime. I just DT'ed, so I'm a bit hesitant, but my game plan for later this week is this:
Wash at night (which is relatively rare for me) after detangling in the morning
- Using TN as a co-wash
- Using CJ Smoothing Assurance as a LI
- while braiding (while wet, and again, at night), mixing in Karen's Body Beautiful leave-in (which makes my hair really soft)
My braiding, I figured, I have very little chance to get all the hair on one side, so I'll do two braids, starting from high neck.
And then sleeping and waking up to see what happens. Worst case scenario I wear it as a braid out, or bun it (if it's absolutely terrible).

Sounds like a good game plan.
I think I will revisit KBB leave in. I do remember it making my hair really soft.
I don't know why, but I am always hesitant about braids. Let me know how the braiding goes. I think I will be a scaredy cat and try it after you.

So... I tried it, and yeah, my hairs a bit too short to make it full, but it looks good in the back. The curls look really nice too
Since your hair is longer, it should work...
I used KCKT as my leave-in mixed with KBB and CJSA.
Edit: Here's a pic---sorry about the lighting, but I refuse to let the sun in... it's about 100 degrees outside.

Just a thought, I dont know if you've ever done twists before but they look AWESOME braided and they'd give a lot more length to the braid. I braid mine before bed to stretch them and they make a nice pattern.
