Please, breakage question.
For work, atleast 3/4 days of the week...sometimes 6, I'll wear my hair in a ponytail and use like a bristled brush to brush and slick back the top. I'm noticing a lot of little hairs all over the top and through my hair now. Can doing this be causing breakage? Idk how else to get my hair slicked back into a ponytail without using this brush and some hairspray. Please answer anybody if you may have some input. It's worrying me. I don't want this to break my hair.

It may be, especially if you have lots of root curl because then the curls will snag/rip more than if it were straighter, I would think. What kind of brush is it? Some kinds are worse than others.
You could try just using your fingers to rake through any bumps, that's what I do! It takes a little longer but looks fine. |

Anybody know, or had this experience?

Always run your brush under warm water to soften the bristles as you use it.
Also, I've been getting those too especially on the sides of my head. I think I need to stop sleeping with the ponytail. That's probably doing the damage. Another thing is I need to train myself to condition and shampoo it differently now that its super long. I'm gonna have to do what I always dreaded seeing other people do: wash it in sections an style it in sections. Stop treating the whole head of hair like its just one big piece. |

Have you looked closely at these little hairs sticking up - are they tapered at the ends? If so, they are probably just new baby hairs growing to replace the naturally shed ones.
|
What do you mean by tapered? Sorry, just want to make sure I'm clear on what I'm looking for. :)

I mean it tapers down to a fine point at the end. If it were breakage, it would look the same thickness all the way to the end of the shaft and possibly have a split end or a white dot.

Oh! No they're all basically fine at the end. I thought that was my hair thinning and breaking. But it's probably new growth? I hope!

No worries then! They are actually a good thing! |
