Anybody elses hair do this?
After sleeping on it, and wearing buns for a couple days, my curls fall and look like this. Is that normal? They go from ringlets to nearly a wave as shown. I don't get it. It happens all over. I have naturally 3b hair, why is it doing this? And also, i know the before is a bad picture, but it shows all my fly aways when I'm in the light and stuff. Is that breakage?

That happens to me too! After a couple days, especially if I put it in a bun, my hair goes more limp/wavy. But not like attractive wavy, just kind of bad looking. So yeah, I think this is normal but I don't know why it happens!

Omg I'm so relieved someone can relate! And yeah not attractive wavy at all, just kind of limp and lifeless and worn out. It sucks. I wish i could wear it up or back without losing the curl.

Also happens to me! But I just wish I knew WHY it happens, like Luluus said!

I was talking to my nana and she said that when you wear your hair up in a bun or ponytail, it stresses and stretches out the curl causing it to loosen. Kind of like if you wear your hair in a ponytail, it causes a crease. Our hair adjusts to however it's styled. But still, 3c and curlier i don't believe does this. It's confusing.

You're right, DepressedCurls, it is confusing. Yet it does make sense, in a way. But then it just makes me wish that I had 3c curls! Maybe some 3c curly girls (or guys) will read this thread and tell us whether or not this happens to them!

Lol i know, me too! I seen your protein thread, i use eco styler and either SM curl enhancing smoothie or V05 and all have protein so idk if protein would help cause i feel like i use a lot. But protein treatments may be different. Like ION protein treatment from sallys once a week or so?

Yes! Protein treatments! Which makes me wonder if there are side effects of giving your hair a lot of protein. I'll have to find out.

Oh yeah that could be an issue as well. Hmm. It's so hard to pinpoint what's wrong and so hard to find a balance.

Agreed
Mine definitely do the same thing! I have no clue how to sleep w/curls and keep them looking the same.. I have to wet them every time.. I've only been lucky ONCE w/sleeping w/a pineapple and styling the next day w/a lil gel.. but they still look slept on..
I've been told that buns really help growth, kinda just letting your hair do what it does... I'd believe that for the roots, but the ends/where the scrunchie is around it? Not so sure...

I always have to just throw it back after i sleep on it or rewash :/
And i know, it doesn't seem so for the ends. Unless maybe you used a scrunchie.

Suffering the exact same issue here too! I use a scrunchie and sleep on satin pillow case.
Doesn't make sense here to receive good 2nd hair day either!

I think all curly hair does this. I have mainly 3c with a lot of 3b and some 4a sized curls, and some straight and wavy hairs sprinkled throughout. When I bun my hair it is straight/wavy all over. If your hair is in a stretched state for a period of time it's going to look like stretched out hair. Some people do this intentionally to stretch their hair to show length but I've never liked that look on me.

Same here, ive tried a scrunchie and bonnet and pillow case...it just doesn't work.
Ive achieved it by accident before, or if for some reason my hair just decides to behave or when i did conditioner only styling, i could get third day hair but my hair wasn't clumped like i wanted so i quit. Hmm. Idk. :/

Lol! I never wear buns and/or ponytails when I want to get 2nd day hair. I'll only do it on days when I'm not going anywhere!

Yeah the bonnet squashes my curls too. I'm going to get a satin pillowcase soon and see if that helps

I used to pineapple my hair before I would put on my satin bonnet, but that made my curls extra squashed! It looked horrible! My satin pillowcase works much better!
