Curlies with fine, finicky hair, please read!
Hi, I really need help with my hair! I have really odd hair, it's fine but there is soo much of it. Also, it's a mix of a plethora of curl patterns. I have almost no root curl. A lot of it is 2b/c, but there are a lot of random 3a/b spirals throughout. It can be really wispy and poofy, but at the same time easily weighed down. I would love some recs for a very moisturizing but not heavy conditioner. Thanks!

Styling product recs would also be highly appreciated :) No gels though, please

Curl pattern is transient, so not as important as hair properties when choosing ingredients/products. It's common to have a variety of types through out your head, too.
Look for people with similar properties and see what they use. My hair can be "finicky," too. It HATES castor and mineral oil. Doesn't like chemicals, especially polyquats. I can't use gels because of all the chemicals. I do use "jelly" products. My definition of a jelly product is gelatinous consistency without the chemicals. You may want to try some of the "better" products if your hair is finicky. I really haven't found drugstore or salon products that work well for me. My hair seems to prefer the online, boutique type companies. Based on your description, I'd add a lot of protein into your regime. My hair is fine, started out as winter wavy/summer 3a. Learning to use products/techniques on nc.com has it looking like my signature picture all year around. |
My hair definitely hates polyquats too, even more than cones. Jelly type products are absolutely fine, but thick gels are just too much, are there any specific jelly products I should try?

We're identical hair twins. My hair is also fine (but dense), a mix of waves and curls, and also hates polyquats, cones, and a lot of stuff in general. As far as conditioners go there are quite a few that I really like: Biolage Conditioning Balm, Terax Crema, Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkinseed, and Jessicurl Too Shea. The latter of the two are heavier, but still cone/polyquats free. The first two are also protein free. As for jellies, I really like FSG, specifically jessicurl RR.

Oh, also try KC knot today as a leave in. Light but super moisturizing.

Kathy Mack.......I have never sent a message before and I am probably posting this message incorrectly. I have very similar hair properties to you. You mentioned that you use a leave-in, curl enhancer and jelly product. I saw many different products listed in your signature area. I am a product junkie and I have had no luck with products. Which leave-in, curl enhancer and jelly products are your go to products? Thanks!

As I said there, many of us rotate products. My hair has always satiated on product. Even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out and style every day. Seldom let myself use any product more then once in five days, if that. My answer would have to be that my go to products are in my signature! |
Today I received in the mail Curly Kinks Cream Cleanser and Curlycue ReNew. Do you use the ReNew as a leave-in? Is it too heavy?

Can you recommend a good product with protein that can be used daily?
