KCCC vs. Eco Styler Krystal?

A friend of mine recently gave me these products. I love the consistency of the KCCC but after it dries, my hair is crunchy, so I scrunch it out. Almost immediately, my hair goes from shiny and frizz free, to frizzy and very cotton candy-ish. My curls look extremely dry and poofy. However, the Eco Styler Krystal is a little thicker, and when I apply this gel to my hair, I get these white particles all over my hair, depending on what conditioner I use as a leave-in. It is extremely frustrating! I just don't understand what I am doing wrong! Does anyone have any ideas?

You might try scrunching out the KCCC with a tiny bit of oil on your hands. I use the Neem oil in my siggie, but there are many other oils that people like, or try a pomade like MOP Glisten if you are cg. If you don't mind cones, Aveda makes excellent pomades, both a humectant pomade (for dry weather) and an anti-humectant for when your hair is more likely to frizz.

Another option is to SOTC with a serum like Curls in a Bottle, - I actually should try that! I've used CIAB when my hair is wet - it helps make it shiny.

I don't know about the Eco Styler, sorry.

I hope that helps and maybe some other curlies will have ideas too.

As to the flakes- some products don't play with others and knowing which products to use together can be difficult.

As to your hair frizzing when you scrunch out the crunch:

Are you using a leave in under your gel?
Some have better luck scrunching out the crunch with damp hands or with oil or conditioner on their hands.
You could also play with the amount of gel you use. You might need less than you are using.

Let us know if that helps! If not, maybe try a different gel, one that is more liquidy.
