So I just tried coconut oil for the first time last night, and my hair feels amazing this morning. It's so soft! Feels like baby hair. The only problem is that it's really weighed down, I had to pull it back in a ponytail. Did I purely use to much, or is this oil just going to be too heavy for my fine hair? I have fine, very porous hair (naturally porous), and I'm thinking that my hair needs an oil to seal in the moisture. But coconut oil has been the first one I've tried. Is there a lighter one that I should try? I'm going to get it cut this afternoon, so I'm going to try to start this hair on a better way. Thanks!

I use extra virgin coconut oil but a little goes a long way. Use a little less

Id suggest mixing it with a very light oil like sunflower oil.

I'd just use less of it. Too much of any oil for your hair isn't a good idea. You can also mix it with a leave-in conditioner.

I have very fine, color treated hair and I use coconut oil all the time without problem. But, I use it as a pre-poo treatment, leave it on for several minutes to several hours, and shampoo and condition as normal. I, like you find that it is too heavy to leave in the hair. Have you tried it that way? I find it helpful for me to balance out porosity and really help it retain protein lost from coloring. For sealing my hair, I use argan oil, or a mixture of coconut with other oils (many are commercially available).
