I second Curly B's suggestion, flax seed gel (FSG) is amazing.

I have heard so much about fsg so this weekend i did it. I made homemade flaxseed gel and applied it to my soaking wet hair after applying conditioner. OMG!!!! The best gel i have ever used. It didnt dry my hair out and itgave me soft and welldefined curls.
The only minus is that i have to refrigerate it. I cant carry the gel with me in my purse daily.
Do you now if i can add sth to this gel so i dont need to refrigerate it??

I am so glad the gel worked out for you; it really is amazing! If you check around on this site you will find several threads where people list their recipes, some of which include ingredients intended as preservatives. There is one thread in particular where a woman tested various preservatives in the FSG to see which ones were the most effective. The preservatives ranged from things you can easily get at a health food store (essential oils, citric acid etc.) to commercial grade preservatives. HTH:-)

mcheryce I looked for it but couldn't find it. I found it the first time in another thread, someone had linked to it. Unfortunately I can't remember what thread that was . I hope someone else has better luck because it would be a great reference.

Aloe Vera gel is wonderful too as a curl definer with no crunch. I use an entire 3 tbsp aloe Vera gel mixed with 1
Tbsp jojoba oil. I have 4a/3c mid neck length (if pulled with my fingers) so adjust amount accordingly.

Thank you all for sharing your tips!
I unfortunetely dont have good experience with aloe vera gel my hair gets dry despite using a lot of conditioner/leave and sealing with evoo in before applying gel. Dont know why...
My hair is highly porous and have low elasticity. Maybe thats why it doesnt give me good hold and moisture??

I've tried several gels and nothing works for me .... I gave up that journey. I do conditioner and jojoba oil only and get good results without gel

I like Aussie Instant Freeze if I need hold. It seems I've seen a lot of 3cs and 4s who like EcoStyler although I don't use it.

It's not a gel, so I don't know if you're interested in creams... But Donna Marie Dream Curling Creme is fantastic! It's thick, but has a slip that makes it easy to distribute and leaves the curls soft. I use a bit of Naturalista Cosmetics AloeFlax seed gel om top for more hold but I think it would be okay without it.

Oh and I haven't tried It yet, but I hear good things about the As I Am Curling Jelly..I think that's what it's called. Maybe try to find some reviews on it, you can get it at Sally's.
