Will using minimal heat damage my hair too much/make me lose my curl?

After straightening my hair for nearly 4 years straight (All through middle school, freshman and sophomore year more often than not) Junior year I decided to go natural all the time. If I straighten my hair, it'll be once every 3 or 4 months.

However, all that heat has left my hair horrible. It's lost some of it's curl. I'm "supposed" to be a 3b/3c, but now I'm more of a 3a/3b, flat and no volume.

I tried using a curling iron on SOME strands, and leaving the ends off the heat, to add some definition and curl to my hair.

For the past 2 months, I've stopped using shampoo, and I'm using an argan oil conditioner, and I sometimes use a mask for my hair

I don't use that much product, just when I get out of the shower, some Ouidad curling creme and some hair serum

I'm going off topic, I just want to know how bad the damage to my hair will be, if any, if I use the curling iron? I only use it for like 5-10 seconds, and I spray a heat protector on my hair
check the INCI of the hair protectant - they tend to have alcohol denat. in them more often than not - this would
I know CG doesn't promote using silicones, but nor it does promote using a curling iron...
so if you want to use the curling iron then you should protect the curled strands more - try finding a silicone-pacted "silk" serum without alcohol - it's the best heat protectant you can get probably
but using this will mean you'd have to use a simple claryfying shampoo with SLS from time to time to get rid of the unwanted silicone-buildup so this all really depends of how full-on CG you want to go or if you want to go CG at all
curlypearl likes this.
Bed head has a anti frizz serum thats also a heat protectant that has water soluble silicone and to my understanding these silicones dont build up so you dont need sulfates to take off. If you need the name let me know. I'm not home right now.
