Default How do you do your two strand twists?

I'm trying to do more protective styles. I've tried two strand twists on dry hair- FAIL. They came out looking uneven. I've tried on wet hair-FAIL they wouldn't stay twisted. The funny thing is I did some two strand twists last year but I can't remember what products I used. I guess that's what I get for being such a PJ lol! And they started to unravel after 3 days anyway. So I'm hoping to get some good suggestions.

Are you making them small enough? Big twists will definitely not stay together. I have a video on twists/twistouts if you wanted to look at that. (youtube.com/missdarcei) Basically I use regular conditioner as a leave in, separate in sections, and twist 1-2 inch sections. I use gel as well on each section if I want it to last or be very defined.
