Help with Styling

Hi, Everyone!

I need some advice regarding styling my 3c hair. I just recently got a Deva Cut, which I love, but when I tried to replicate the style that my stylist did, I couldn't do it at all. When I left the salon, my curls were so defined and springy, but when I tried to do it myself this morning, they were just kind of "bleh."

Typically, I style my hair by doing the following:

Wet it down with a spray bottle, put some leave-in on (I use AG's Fast Food) and then comb it out with a wide-toothed comb. Then, I put more leave-in on, and I just started using a mixture of the Deva Curl gel and a curl definer by MoMo. Then, I diffuse and maybe put a little hairspray on.

The results of this are very lackluster and my curls are not defined at all. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it's really frustrating because I've seen how good my hair CAN look, but normally it doesn't look that way at all.

I just need some advice or insight on what I'm doing wrong. Is it because I use a comb? Am I not using my products correctly? I'd appreciate any advice you might have.

If the comb is not working for you, try to finger comb your hair. I find that makes the curls bigger and springy. Lay off the hairspray it will make your hair very dry, causing more frizz. Also I have found that the MOST IMPORTANT part of styling for defined curls is styling in SECTIONS. Separate your hair into smalled sections and then apply your leave-in and styler. This ensures you get every curl. Styling is less about products and more about technique.

I tried sectioning today, and that did seem to help a little. However, I think what I'm noticing that is bothering me is that when my stylist did my hair, she used what I think is the "plopping" method, and it produced bigger, thicker curls. My hair is not doing that at all when I fix it. I'll post some pictures to show as examples:

That second picture looks rough when I put it next to the first one...I really need help learning how to fix my hair.

I know you all get a million messages like mine, but I would greatly appreciate any feedback!
Plopping is when you take a tshirt and put your hair in it upside down almost like a turban to help it dry faster. Is that what she did? It gave you bigger curls? Finger combing always gives me fat curls opposed to using a comb or brush or you could try skipcurling your hair which is taking pieces and twirling them around your finger to make perfect curls
