Default Looking for a basic "where to start" product reccomendation...

I'm either a 3 A or 2C ... maybe a combo of both. I just ordered the livecurlylivefree analysis because I need help figuring out porosity, texture, etc...

In the meantime I want to start cleansing/conditioning with something that is a good place to start regardless of my hair properties.. I can fine tune later.... I don't want to make my own, and don't want to mess with drug store junk.. (I've tried CG previously and think I was having some allergic reactions to ingredients in suave and vo5 products.) I just read the Curly Girl book and am ready to do this right!

I'm looking at Devacurl products DevaCurl No-Poo Cleanser and One Condition but wondering if there might be something else that you'd recommend for a starting point - either because it is cheaper or because it works for a variety of hair types.

Thanks in advance.. I am just so overwhelmed with the choices!!!

The best way to choose ingredients/products is by hair properties. Here's a link to help you with yours Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics Once you determine your hair properties, you can look for others with hair like yours and see what they use. It's the best place to start.

Around here, Deva is a love/hate line. Many of us start out with it, think we like it and then move on to things we like a lot more.

i think a safe place to start could be with curl junkie -- low poo (gentle assurance) and the no poo (daily fix). her conditioners are great.
she also has sample sets.

on her website is a 'selection guide' to help you start. you can purchase these products at a cheaper price on aveyou.com. the coupon codes currently (i think) are

AYBEAUTY5 -- 15% off
BEAUTY25 -- $25 off $100 and over
FIVE -- 15% off

shipping is $5 flat for orders below $50. $50 & above it's $1.

and, of course, curlmart carries curl junkie products, and they do have sales from time to time.

Thank you. I got trigger happy last night...excited to get 'er done. I washed for the last time with sulfate shampoo and conditioned with a cone free conditioner.. Rinsed upside down and scrunched out the water with my hands and then I microfiber towel. Air drying now... I don't have gel or anything yet... But it's looking better than it has in awhile already. Getting my samples of hair collected and will mail off for my analysis this afternoon. Woohoo. I think I was guessing properties Wrong last time and trying so hard to buy cheap products.

I bought items based on rating popularity and ingredients..at first I started withcurlmarts "no frizz cocktail" set and was surprised at the ingredients! I ended up with these:

Texture My Way Hydrate Intensive Moisture Softening Shampoo
Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner
Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkin Seed Moisturizing conditioner
Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner
Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper
