Have you looked at Wal-Mart or Target? My grocery store also carries it. Sometimes the beauty/hair stores in malls have it as well.

I'd recommend LA Looks Sports gel or Ecostyler Krystal.

I read your post and was going to recommend Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee...sorry!
I agree with LA Looks Sport or even the yellow LA Looks (don't know the name). Eco Styler works ok for me, but the hold can't compare to Biosilk.
Can't you get someone to order Biosilk RHG from Amazon for you? I got a giant bottle- 34 oz, for $30.00 a couple of years ago. The price has gone up a bit, but it's SO worth it.
Good luck!

I agree with LA Looks Sport. I sometimes use LA Looks for Curly Hair and I don't think it would have enough hold for you.

Hydrolyzed wheat protein dries and makes my hair poofy.
Thanks for replying guys. I had a reality check by telling myself that my hair is thick and I can't change it.

Then may I change the question, how do you stop poof on the side of my head? I tried smearing la looks sports gel all over the side of my head and the flakes came out oops. I'm thinking of getting olive oil, but I don't know if that helps because the internet says that it's heavy... but makes hair thicker.. what?

Is the Garnier Pure Clean Gel a pomade? For some reason it looks like it.

Isn't Biosilk light weight? I've never seen a straight answer on how it was.

The weird thing is that I'm 14, I can't order stuff online

Do you have a Sally's you can get to? If so try the "Wetline Xtreme Gel" or the "Salon Care Extra Firm". They are both thick like Eco Styler, but without wheat protein.

Have you tried EcoStyler or Aussie Instant Freeze? They're pretty good.

Nevermind. Didn't see you were protein sensitive.

Oils can't physically make your hairs thicker. They can give the appearance that your hair is thicker but in my case I've never had that.

I only use EcoStyler gel for this reason (weight) it is a very thick gel, has never flaked on me and its cheap! And u can buy it in different sizes.

GFPC gel is also pretty close to EcoStyler and cheap but its not very economical for me being that i have a LOT of hair!

If you're looking to cut down in volume/bulk, which is what I assume you mean by "weighing hair down" you should look into not just a gel but a good conditioner for RO and as a leave-in. Having well conditioned/moisturized hair will be key in managing bulk.

Gel, especially hard hold gel is to seal out moisture and hold the pattern in place. Used on top of well-moisturized hair can keep things neat, but it won't work as well by itself.

Have you figured out your properties yet? Maybe get a rich conditioner that is protein-free for now and if your curls droop down the line you can think about re-incorporating protein (maybe a different type).

I can't stress enough how much of a difference having moisturized/conditioned hair is going to make. I have fine hair, medium density and a looser curl patten and I have to stay away from heavy conditioners because it cuts the bulk of my hair down by half (which I don't like as I like huge hair). And be thankful for what you have! I wish too much hair was my problem!

Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee is perhaps the thickest, strongest holding gel I've ever used. It is expensive, but you don't need a lot. I have VERY thick hair. It gets poofy, frizzy and big, if I don't use leave in conditioner and heavy gel. I use Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine leave in and Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee or LA Looks. I also like Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel.Sometimes I'll go to Ecostyler, but it is not "slippery" enough.
I need to put some gel on my finger and feel the consistency, to know if it will work on my hair. If it feels too light, clean or dries too quickly...I know it won't work. Do you have a Harmon Beauty Supply by you? They have Biosilk and also their own line of products.
Again, I know you said you can't order online, but can't you get an adult to buy it for you and give them the $?
I would try out a smaller size first.
Good Luck!

I liked biosilk but not the price, Volumax mega from Sally's beauty is just as good if not better and much cheaper.

Are you leaving in enough conditioner? Imo gel can only do so much if the hair isn't moisturized enough. Some of that weight you want is coming from good moisture levels, even leaving in a heavier rinse-out if needed.
