Default 3b/3c probs

So I have 2 different hair types that are unfortunately very defined in area. The front and lower layers are all 3b, or at least looser curls. The back top chunk is definitely 3c. This has had its own list of challenges....especially as I'm trying to grow out my hair (it's currently about 1-2 inches below my collar bone when dry, but layered so the shortest (aka the back) is around my mid neck). Currently the problem that I'm having is that the back of my hair has gotten inexplicably frizzy which makes it puff out even further and shrink giving me this weird shelf.

I was wondering if anyone would have some ideas to help ease the curls in the back to better match the rest of my head....or at the very least reduce the frizz. currently I'm just using more product, which I know is probably not the best solution. My 3b hair, though, is loving whatever its doing. I've never seen it shinier. But it was never really picky hair anyways.

Also my hair is fine and with a low porosity, but still thick and very curly.

Thanks in advance!

You just described my hair lol.

Right now the only thing that works for me is to try to use more product in the problem areas and to finger curl the area so that the curls match the rest of my hair a little better. Sometimes this works, but it's kind of hit or miss. And it doesnt get better the longer your hair gets, mine is halfway down my back and i still have the same issues lol, just with more hair now.

lol, glad to know I wasn't the only one. Sometimes I peruse this and think no one's got this hair! A lot of the treatments would be too heavy.

Some days are better than others with the shelf. When it's a bad one I started doing this (very loose) side braid. I just use bobby pins to exentuate the layers and loosely braid what's left of the longest locks to the side so it sits on my shoulder.

As for the fuzz, I figured it out. My hair was getting too moisturized and my oversensitive back curls were just showing it more than my front ones. I did a homemade protein mask, stripped my hair of product build up, bought a lighter conditioner, and my hair's been a lot less obnoxious sense then.

Thanks! Glad to know there's another curly like me out there.

I'm not sure how much longer my hair is than yours but I feel like I'm fighting the same battle with frizz. I think I've conquered the frizz for my "under hair" by adding a little olive oil. HOWEVER, the back/top of my hair is so frizzy and out of control. I don't know if it is because I diffuse or what but I HATE IT!!
