I've been a member of this site for a long time, but I've never quite made the leap over the fence into the Curly Girl Method.

I started this weekend and so far so good. The reason for the leap is because my hair is falling out! Not in clumps or anything, but there is enough hair to clog my shower drain. I checked the photos of the shower hairball clumps, and mine is nowhere near as big as the peachball. lol But it's enough to be concerning to me.

I think what I have going on is a build up of silicones causing weakening of my hair? That's my best guess. Damn you Pantene!

So I posted and someone suggested I was in the 3 category. I'm guessing a 3A or possibly 3B, not sure. My hair is fine & thin as well. Porosity, I'm not sure.

Sunday I washed my hair with a sulfate shampoo - Sauve Naturals & conditioner. Byebye Pantene.

Today I tried my first curly girl method.

I washed with Sauve Naturals conditioner and then conditioned with more of the same.

When I got out of the shower I attempted to Plop, but don't think I did it right, but I'm sure even wrong is better than a regular towel.

After I did my makeup I unplopped and put in some spray conditioner (Just a little bit of Sauve Naturals Conditioner and a lot of water shook up in a spray bottle) and then used some hair gel (la Bella for Curly hair).

My hair looks pretty good, I think. & now for some pictures.

1. these is a recent picture, but pre curly girl and pre haircut (just got a cut last week)
2. this is the results of day 1 curly girl method
3. This is my first purchase with curly girl method in mind.

The aloe juice - I want to make a curl refresher similiar to Ouidad's Botanical Boost. I kept seeing aloe juice as the major ingredient in all the recipes I was looking at over the weekend. So I need to find it again and make some.

I have no idea what I'm doing with the Tea Tree Oil.

The Tresemee Naturals Conditioner - not really sure. I don't particularly see the need for more than 1 type of conditioner. I wanted to try it. Perhaps I'll use the Sauve Naturals for cowashing and this one for conditioning.

The Shampoo - will be returned. Just read that is not CG. I want a low sulfate/no sulfate shampoo to have on hand should I want or feel I need to shampoo. I can't imagine not shampooing my hair ever again so I'd like to have something that isn't harsh to have on hand should I need/want to.

Just made some curl refresher

Used this recipe I found here on CurlTalk
Aloe rosewater moisturizing spray....4 oz rosewater, 1 tbsp aloe vera and 1 tbsp oil of choice....courtesy of naturi beauty


I didn't use rosewater, but just regular tap water. I used the tea tree oil pictured above.

I am super bummed I have to refrigerator this aloe juice. My husband is going to wonder what the hell it is and he's going to roll his eyes at me. lol I wish I could have found it in a smaller container.

Having second thoughts and looking for opinions. My main concern is that it is silicone free,which it is. It does have sulfates which are not CG. I understand that, but it says, "low sulfates". Lower than their regular shampoo. But is it lower than say Sauve Naturals Shampoo? I don't know. I was thinking it would be fine for occasional use, but also thinking I really want some no sulfate shampoo because I have quite a bit left of my Sauve Naturals Shampoo if I want a sulfate shampoo.

2nd day hair. I really didn't want to skip cowashing today but I had no time. I sprayed with my homemade curl refresher & plopped while doing makeup. Does anyone plop 2nd day hair? I haven't seen it mentioned but it made it wicked curlier. Not too bad but if I wasn't in a hurry...

I was at the grocery store so I was looking at all the shampoos & picked up some Organix Tea tree shampoo. Don't plan on using it anytime soon but wanted a sulfate & silicone free shampoo to have on hand.

Also picked up some Flax Seed to try my hand at making a homemade gel.

If you want to use the cg method, all of your conditioners have to be silicone free. Last time I checked all of the suave naturals conditioner line had silicones. If you continue to use it, you will need to use a clarifying shampoo or a sulfate free shampoo that has bentaine high on the ingredient list. You won't be able to exclusively cowash because most silicones can't be cowashed out. Check out the article the scoop on silicones.
Hmm.... Everything I have read on this website about Sauve Naturals says it's a CG friendly with no silicones.

These are the ingredients


Water (Aqua) , Cetyl Alcohol , Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine , Fragrance (Parfum) , Lactic Acid , Potassium Chloride , Disodium EDTA , DMDM Hydantoin , PEG-150 Distearate , Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate) , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone , Spirulina Maxima Extract , Mentha Aquatica Leaf Extract , Nymphaea Alba Flower Extract , Blue 1 (CI 42090) , Red 33 (CI17200)

No cones there.

Just made some flaxseed gel after watching a you tube video...

1/4 of a cup of flax seed (i used brown because that's all they had at the store)
2 cups of water

Boiled my water & then added the seeds after it came to a boil. (I've watched videos where it was added to the water cold and then boiled. not sure which is better)

Boiled my flax seeds for about 7 mins.

Strained

added 1 tbsp of aloe vera juice & 1 tbsp of tea tree oil


Put it in a plastic ketchup squeeze bottle.

I don't know about this... I haven't figured out if the consistency is gelly enough, but it's still cooling.

I also wasn't sure about how much of these extra ingredients to add. 1 tbsp seems like a lot...

Well, I must say that my hair feels absolutely disgusting. I haven't showered yet or anything so it's 3rd day hair right now. I don't have anything going on today so I'm just at home cleaning. Going to hit the shower soon and cowash.

Not really satisfied with my hair today. Tried putting in leave in conditioner, & FSG in upside down in soaking wet hair & plopped. It is definitely curly but I'm not sure if it's technique, products, or my haircut. Looks thin & straggly. I know haircut sucks cuz the front sides are not even.

I think my hair needs protein since it's fine & when I run my fingers through it I get several strands of hair in my fingers.

Looking for different treatments / products to try. I like this one:

The idea of having to buy a ton of different things is not appealing at all. I've already bought so much already.

Need to buy: Knox gelatine, some kind of oil. Coconut maybe?

I hate coconut smells.... I have tea tree oil. Maybe I should just use that till it's gone before buying any other oils. Already have aloe vera juice and excited to have another use for that ginormous jug I bought.

Ahhh... yes Dimethicone Copolyol

Is in it, but it's supposed to be a water soluble so it should be fine.

Well I was almost tempted to reach for the shampoo today. My hair was feeling pretty yucky by the end of the day yesterday. I was reading up on different protein treatments and read a bunch of threads. I had the idea of doing a "water wash" this morning after reading about it.

So that's what I did. Just massaged my scalp with my finger tips and washed with water. When I got out of the shower I plopped with a tshirt. I notice that most people plop after putting in their hair products. I tried that yesterday, but I didn't like it at all. I may try it again, but I prefer to put products in after plopping. I plopped while I ate breakfast, dressed & did makeup.

After unplopping, I sprayed hair with my homebrew leave in conditioner (Sauve Naturals & water mixed in a spray bottle), & used some FSG.

I'll post a picture once I'm all dry.

My hair feels very weird with conditioner only washing. It seems limp, flat, etc. I think a water wash today was helpful, but I want to try a cleansing conditioner to see what it does to my hair before I shampoo it.

EVOO - no idea what I'm doing with that. I saw it as an ingredient in a bunch of different things (I like to make concoctions.)

Gelatine - planning a protein treatment tonight or tomorrow morning.

This CG junk is crazy. I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I keep reading all kinds of conflicting information that my head is spinning. One thing I know for sure is that silicones are bad and sulfates are harsh.

So far my hair cannot handle this cowashing business & all these oils. I haven't used a shampoo since Sunday. I'm trying to give it a chance tho..

I did the protein thing from IAGirl's Sciency Blog. My hair is all plopped up right now. I am planning to go to bed like this. I did a cowash after I rinsed the stuff out or was it just a rinse out conditioning? ugh. Will see what it's like in the morning.

I think I need to make more Flax Seed Gel without or less oil in it & make more curl refresher with less oil too.

I know one thing. I'm not spending a penny more on this business until I run out of something! lol

You can lowpoo if co washing isn't working. It took me about two months to start getting regularly decent hair. Six months in most days it does something nice.
