Cutting my Hair

I have long hair that's high porosity, between 3b and 3c at the ends, between 3a and 3b on my crown and between 3b and 4a all around my edges. Hairline front and back and my temples are this forever coarse, forever dry 3c-4a mess. My curls either shrink and clump in very defined curls (usually when I use a lot of product and don't comb out) or take a fuller, kinkier, frizzier approach when combed out or with less product. Stretched or straightened my hair is around butt length. And, I want to get it cut at least to chin length when curled. However, I really don't have the money to go to a salon and risk getting a bad cut to boot. If I'm gonna do that I might as well not spend more than a few dollars getting hair scissors and doing it myself right? Any help for me?
It sounds like we have very similar hair types. I recently had my waist-length hair cut into an inverted bob by a professional. If you were just dusting your ends or giving yourself a trim I would say go for it but going so short on your own is pretty risky. Especially going chin length, you don't want to end up with the dreaded "bowl cut". There is a curly girl on youtube, AsplashofDR, she has a video of how she cuts her hair. Her hair was about waist-length and she cut it just below her shoulders in the video. Hope this helps!

I know it's risky, but I don't have fifty to 100 dollars to drop on a professional cut, much less trying to find one good with curly hair. I definitely wouldn't try to cut it that short on my first try, I'd likely do a shoulder-length cut first and then try shorter if I do well. I'm not worried about it not growing back, even though it annoys me (especially the edges) it grows pretty fast lol I think it would actually be really good to cut it because I haven't had several inches off in years and I've had coloring done several times since last I had it chopped (in that instance it was a waist to bra-strap length cut). It fights me and it's hot so I figured why not try a short cut? To YouTube I guess lol Thanks :3
