long 3b hair... to pixie? or something else?

I'm at the point where I'm going to hack off my hair with a kitchen knife if I don't cut it soon. I've been thinking about cutting it into a very short pixie cut for months now (and every single Spring, too, haha). I just can't stand the frizz and the tangles, I'm forever ripping dreads out and cursing it. I generally wear it in one or two braids, or a bun (but I get a headache with a bun/high ponytail), I never really wear it out long, and when I do it seems like I have to put half a can of mousse/cream/gel/whatever in it, and then it just gets knotted and dreadlocked. I'm pretty sure I just want it ALL gone, but the growing-it-out process is a bit scary, also I don't have the most feminine face so I wonder if it will suit me OK. Here are some photos, including a couple of my son who has basically the same hair as me- mine is that curly when it is shorter, but the weight of it pulls out the curls a bit when it is so long.

oh, it is giving me an error message saying i cant post links or images until i've posted more times?
You should have minimum 5 posts to be able to post links and/or pictures.

Anyways, I totally feel you. And I only had it shoulder-length before I wanted to chop it off again and now I'm liberated with a short bob.

I love curly pixie, but you can go safer with inverted bob/long-pixie and see how you like it. You can go shorter on the next cut.

I've generally not been a fan of pixie cuts, as I've suffered at the hands of too many hairdressers who inflicted them on me either at my mother's insistence when I was a girl, or their own inability to understand the spring factor of curly hair, which resulted in their "just evening up" from below my shoulders to terminally short. However, after six years of CGing, and having finally been able to grow my hair out to longer lengths which I liked, I decided to get an undercut pixie that's rather close to a Mohawk (and am loving it), after having had orthopaedic surgery which made the care of longer hair more trouble than it was worth to me. I had it done by a Deva stylist, who cut it dry, and with the curl, and so far it's looking much better as it get longer than previous pixie cuts. I'll keep it this length for a while (until after I have the other knee done), but expect to go back to longer, but not long, hair after life returns to normal. My experience has been that Deva cuts grow out much better than ordinary, wet cuts, so I'm not terribly worried about the grow out period.
