Still trying to get 2nd day hair..

I know I have a post about this on the general discussion page, but I figure people with a similar hair type would have better advice for my hair. How are all the 3a's getting 2nd day hair? I've tried a few things, but I always seem to end up with TONS AND TONS of surface frizz.

I already posted on your other thread what I do. What are you using to revive your second day hair??

I'm not really sure what I should use to revive it. Today I got completely annoyed with it and ended up just getting it pretty wet with a spray bottle, "plopping" it up under a shower cap for a while, and then diffusing for about 2 minutes. It came out pretty decent and I didn't have to reuse a lot of product; I just applied a little bit of Angell.

I'm glad to hear that you had some success today!!

Why don't you try not wetting it so much, just a small bit of product(try Boots or ORS). I think maybe that you are using gels & it is making your hands stick to your hair & causing frizz. I never use gels on second day hair, only creams. I would not wet it at all & not plop with the shower cap or a towel or anything. I just let it it dry on it's own & it is hardly wet at all to begin with, so it doesn't take long. There would also be no need to diffuse if your hair is not really wet.

My hair looks its best on second days . I usually wash it after I work out in the evening and before dinner and I make sure to put a lot of gel that first day. The morning after when I wake up I do so with perfect curls that have lost the crunch. I do put my hair behind me on the pillow (so as not to lay on them) but somehow with all the tossing and turning I guess the crunch goes away and I like the look I get cause I also get volume with this. I usually don't even need to spray my hair in the am but sometimes I do and I use my own leave in that I make. I use same amounts of conditioner (I use suave milk and honey) and water and add FOTE aloe vera gel to the mix. I put this in a spray bottle and just spritz all around and blend in with my fingers. I hope you can achieve second day hair soon! Good luck!

SLS, do you have any Jessicurl Awe Inspiralling spray? If not I would really recommend that when doing 2nd day hair. It's excellent for this purpose and always saves my hair! I spray all over with a bit of that and then if necessary I'll add a cream like Recoil or Boots, or lately I've been using the Set It Free sometimes instead.

I'm not sure the problem is the gel.. the only reason I re-apply the gel is because when I wake up I have the all-over frizz, even with the pineapple. I'm going to try and apply more product when I wash and style tomorrow, hopefully that will help my hair "hold up" overnight. I don't have any Jessicurl Awe Inspiralling spray, but I am going to try my left-over FOTE gell next time since it isn't sticky.

So I am wondering what 2nd day hair means to you guys? Is it waking up in the morning and not needing to do much with it or do you always wet it some or add products? I am interested in the wetting part especially.

To me second day hair is not having to do much at all with it. When I let down my pineapple, my hair usually looks pretty good, nice & volumey(new word ). Then I have to do very little with it. I hardly wet it at all. I just wet my hands & rub some ORS between my palms & smooth it over my hair. By wetting my hands it makes the cream styler a little runnier, less sticky & easier to distribute. Then I will probably repeat this, only this time I will scrunch a little. It seems the more I fool with it the more frizz I will get. Less is more

I have to pay attention to this since I am considering a 7AM yoga class and would not be able to rinse my hair that day before going to work.
I have never been able to have 2nd day hair. My hair needs to be wet every day. I have tried all the different refreshing sprays. I am going to try the creme suggestion though. I so wish I my hair wasn't so much work everyday. It takes my hair 5 hrs to dry! ( If I diffuse, it gets frizzy)Usually if I have to be somewhere early, I end up just pulling it up in a ponytail. Even though people tell me it looks cute that way, I really would rather wear my hair down.

Okay, I have to ask . . . . .
What's a pineapple? And no, I'm not asking about the fruit!
I'm a 2something/3something. Started modified CG routine on 6/6/05
Cut more than ten inches from my BSL hair on 8-10-05 and growing it long again
But we're STILL adjusting.
It's pulling your hair up into a ponytail on the very top of your head.
I posted this on the Gen. Discussion, but I'll post again in case anyone doesn't surf over there anymore.

Ok.. so how thrilled am I!?!?!

I GOT SECOND DAY HAIR!!

Last night I got fed up and decided that it would be a good idea to apply some honey to my hair to kind of "freeze" it in place overnight. I mixed some with AV gel, just because it's impossible to apply it alone and scrunched it into slightly damp [I sprayed it with my spray bottle] hair. I went to bed, pt it up in a pineapple, and this morning it looks pretty darn good. I barely had to do anything to it! I think I'm going to try mixing the honey right in with my Angell when I style instead of the Weightless & see what happens.

I am having better luck with 2nd day hair lately. I attribute it to using the right products on wash day, getting it heavily damp on the second day, and using my own version of Awe Inspiraling spray.

1. I need to use fairly heavy product in small amounts when I wash in order to combat frizz. I mix curl balm with pomade and sometimes even add gel to the mix. My curl spray creates frizz, so I need the heavier products.
2. When I mist it the second day, it needs a good dousing and plop. Otherwise, it acts like it's foggy outside and frizzes. (My spray bottle makes a very fine mist, which does that.)
3. Without the homemade Awe, my spirals just won't spiral. *Sometimes* they do, but I need a guarantee.

I got 2nd day hair for the first time today! I used Alterna Texturizing Glaze Curl Enhancer. It's kind of like a cream, but not nearly as thick. I used very little mixed w/ a little water, and some Dove Smooth and Soft.

Modegrrl: Would be interested to know how you make your own version of the Awe spray.
I am just getting the hang of Awe spray, I have about half a bottle left & am actually thinking of diluting it a bit as it sometimes feels a bit producty. But making my own would be even better!

I get second day hair, but not consistently, but I can't shower every day or I may just shrivel up and die due to lack of time and moisture. But, anyways... I just kinda deal with worse hair if needs be. Pretty much, my hair is better when I don't toss around when I sleep, and worse when I do. Putting my hair in a ponytail annoys me (maybe it would help, tho), so I just toss my hair behind me just like when I go to sleep with my hair wet (most of the time this is the case) over my pillowcase, so if you were to look at me I'd look like a troll.. (Hair sticking straight up from the head.) Sometimes it just doesn't work. Like today. My curls are so very undefined. *pout*

After posting that I have never been able to have 2nd day hair, I think I have finally figured it out. Also figured out how I can make honey work for me. (That is from a different thread but applies here) I now use honey as a rinse mixed with water before my condish. I do not rinse out all my condish so some honey is left in too. I then mix a little condish in with my gel. (not all condish and gel can be mixed as it will cerd but my combination works) I have gotten 2nd day hair every since I started doing this and I have consistantly gotten good second day hair. In fact one day, it looked better than the first day!
