Default Oil

Just wondering if any other 3as' use oil on their hair?
Ive' just started to use a little Sweet Almond Oil (massage kind) on the ends of my 2nd day hair, it seems to work quite well as my hair is very dry.
I used Almond oil as I already had some in the house but I am wondering what other types of oil are good. I know some curlies use jojoba & coconut but Im' not sure if these would be too heavy for 2b/3a hair.
Any recommendations?
TIA

Hi I use jojoba oil on my hair. I don't find it too heavy at all, just a couple of drops though is enough.

I have coconut oil too, but so far I have only used it in a DT. I have yet to try it on my ends. I think that Pixiecurl uses it with success.

I also use Jessicurl Oil Blend for hair & Qhemet Herbal Henna Oil on dry hair. Both are very nice & make my hair feel soft & look shiney.

HTH's!!

I use a couple of drops of Jessicurl Oil Blend now and then. I've never tried using a larger amount, maybe sometime I will.

this is true! i started with jojoba oil - i would often massage my scalp with it apply it to my ends at night. then i got coconut oil, which i love love love! i often apply it to all my pineappled hair at night (the ponytail part). i've also smoothed/scrunched it into dry hair during the day that is a little frizzy/wild. doesn't weigh my hair down, but i do try to avoid the roots. i occasionally use a little shea butter on my ends at night. for DT's, i mix condish, honey, jojoba oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and sometimes aloe vera gel (just a little of everything!)

if i had to pick just one of these oils i would go with coconut. love it!

I haven't tried the oils that everyone else has recommended. It will go in my to do and try list! I have always used olive oil. I can't use it all by itself though because it weighs my hair down. I have recently discovered that if I mix the OO with conditioner and honey I get super shiny soft curls!

Tried the oil(olive & vanilla) in the mister recipe from Curly Girl (called Hair Dressing) and it didn't work for me at all. Made greasy little hanks.

Like the sound of coconut or jojoba smoothed into hair. How many drops would you use? TIA

I like jojoba and I've use Jessicurls Oil Blend. I have used 4-5 (have used a little more sometimes) drops and put it on my ends or the pineapple part and left it in overnight if I was washing in the morning.

The other night I put in Too Shea and 3 small puddles of the oil blend and left it in my hair overnight. I washed with 1/2 HCC and 1/2 Suave coconut in the morning, put a little Aloeba in as a leave-in and my gel as usual. My hair looked fine, not oily at all or anything but was soooo soft it was almost too soft! It felt great though.

I've not tried coconut oil yet but jojoba and the oil blend do not leave your hair greasy. The hair absorbs what it wants and then rest washes out easily, even with conditioner. That's what I like about it.

I've used olive oil once. It make my hair soft, but a bit too heavy.

My hair likes a lightweight oil like grapeseed or almond. I use liquid oil for shine, but if I need shine and re-definition, a pomade works. My current pomade has hydrogenated castor oil.

Went into town today & couldn't get jojoba or coconut oil @ local health food shop. So have decided to order online(I already get castor oil for OCM), thought I would try the coconut 1st as its quite a bit cheaper than jojoba.
Just wondering do most of you get the liquid kind or the solid?

!!! They were at your house too?? For people who find olive oil too heavy for them, don't ever use it alone. The best tip I can give you guys is to get the extra light olive oil. The consistency of this one is less viscous and more 'liquidy'. Also like I suggested before mix it in with your conditioner and honey.

ITA, I love, love, love, coconut oil. I use it the same way as pixiecurl only I use a little bit different mix for a DT (Jessicurl DT, honey, Coconut Oil).

Do you have a WalMart grocery there? I've seen coconut oil on the cooking oil aisle there. I've also seen it at the grocery store, in the health food aisle. It's probably over by the baking stuff, too. I think it was an 8 or 10 ounce container for around 5 bucks. It may be cheaper than paying shipping.

Sometimes, I'll use a few drops of jojoba oil to help with frizz on dry hair.

Well now I've got to try this! I don't have good luck w/ honey, or oils. I love coconut oil (b/c of the smell), but I don't really like it on styled hair. I use it as an extra conditioner before bed, or in a DT. It makes the hair shaft look a little greasy. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'll have to try mixing it w/ conditioner. How are you doing that? On wet hair, or dry hair, or what?

Munequita and superrach3 are you girls rinsing this concoction out? Or do you leave it all in? I want the singing angels to come to my house!

They always come to my bathroom every time I use OO, condish and honey... I do rinse it ALL out, if I didn't it would weigh down the curls and the result would be a flat crown . I do this DT after doing an ACV rinse every two weeks. I am still loving this!
