Any other 3a's use shampoo?
From the product thread on this board, it looks like a lot of you use non-sulfate shampoos or conditioner to wash your hair. Does anyone use a sulfate shampoo?
I'm a 3a with fine but thick hair (the individual hairs are fine, but I have a ton of them). I've tried using sulfate-free cleansers but my hair seems to get greasy and weighed down very quickly when I use them. Right now I'm alternating between Jessicurl HCC and a sulfate shampoo (a Suave one right now - I think it's Mango). I use HCC for a few days, then when my hair feels greasy I use shampoo, so I probably use shampoo 2-3x a week. My hair seems to be in pretty good shape and not too dry, so I guess I'll stick with this routine for now. |
I use a sulfate shampoo twice a month to get rid of the hard water minerals & any junk lingering in my hair. I use ABBA Molasses Purifying or Purifier, though I may try Aveda's Detoxifier because LauraBeth uses & recommends it.

i use the creme of nature shampoo (which is sulfate free) about 2/3 times a week
|
I do use a shampoo with sulfates but not as frequently as I did before. Maybe twice a month now? I like the Kiehl's Amino Acid Shampoo. The sulfate in that one is sodium coco-sulfate but coco-betaine is also present. It smells like coconuts, I like it. Now I'm mostly using Creme of Nature.

I'm a 2c/3A.
For the last 3 weeks I used a sulfate based shampoo once a week, and I'm now starting to notice it being very dry... :( I think it may be good every once in a while though to clarify, but regularly? Nooo, not for me anymore! |
There is a b1g1 50% off special going on with back to basics sulfate free shampoo. I am still trying to decide whether to try it or not. Has anyone used it before? I currently shampoo with sulfate shampoos and am thinking about switching to a sulfate free.

I use sulfate shampoo every day to every other day. I cannot attest to the difference between using sulfate shampoo and non-sulfate shampoo as I have never used the latter. Maybe someday :)
|
I use a shampoo with SLES and other non-sulfate cleansers (BWC Moisture Plus) about once a week if I'm using anything build-y-up-py ('cones, etc.) on a regular basis. If not, I use it whenever my hair seems to want it. (If my hair shows signs of starting to get overconditioned or built-up).
Once a month or so I use Aveda Detoxifier for hard water issues. M |
I use sulfate free shampoos a couple of times a week. I tried to go back to sulfates but my hair wouldn't let me. It hated it. In fact my skin hates sulfates too. My tooth paste doesn't even have sulfates in it. (get sores)
|
I use sulfates in my shampoo. I find that it does not give me any bad effects- though I've never really gone w/o sulfates for shampooing. I shampoo 2-3 times/week, and though my hair is damaged from highlights, I don't feel sulfates are 'ruining' my hair, because I use super-moisturizing products. Also, I use silicones, though many here also don't like these. Everyone's different, that's for sure!

I use non-sulphate 'poo about once a week & a gentle sulphate 'poo (just on the roots) about once a month. I use it to clarify my hair as I found the lemon-aid too drying.

The Trader Joe's ones are really good too, but I'd steer clear if you color. I didn't like them as much as the ABBA though. |
Yup. I have to use sulfate shampoo to keep my hair from getting weighed down looking. I stick with sodium laureth sulfate, which seems to be the gentlest, but I've tried all the sulfate-free ones and always go back. I do like Mastey Traite, but even with this one I have to use a sulfate poo every week or so.

By the way -- your hair is gorgeous and healthy-looking. If you are using sulfates, it definitely doesn't seem to be hurting your hair at all!!!

I use shampoo. I have tried CO twice (even went 3 months one time), but it's not for my hair type. The only sulfate that I avoid is SLS. I use all others... my hair doesn't seem to mind at all.

I hadn't been using any sulfate poo since Dec/04, but I was having build-up issues. Then, last month, I got Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo, which has Sodium Myreth Sulfate (derived from coconut oil). I was scared that my hair was going to go haywire on me, but it didn't. I love this shampoo!! :D I use it once a week now.
|
I poo once a week. I alternate with Jessicurl HCC, Creme of Nature, Mastey and TJ Refresh (has a sulfate). I also clarify once a month with Elucence. I am not totally against sulfates, but try to avoid the harsh ones.
|
I went back to shampoo after JessiCurl just for a change of pace, but now I'm ready to return to her HCC. Shampoo makes my hair feel too dry and I'm missing that clean-but-not-stripped feel to my hair.
|
I love Jessicurl, but HCC makes my hair a little greasy. I don't need that much oil--it weighs my hair down. I hear her Linen Closet line has less oils (on my list). I use Low Poo and clarify once a month (used Paul Mitchell One because I was desparate, but plan on buying phyto organics kelate).

I shampoo daily. L'Oreal Vive Smooth Intense has been working wonderfully for me lately.
I think I've written that sentence 10 times today! |
