Breakage?

I suspect I'm having problems with my hair breaking off, but I'm not sure. Ever since my hair went curly I've been "shedding" a lot. In the past few months I've noticed that a lot of my shedded (there's a new word) hair is shorter than my hair and it doesn't have any root attached - you know, that little bit of skin.

If it is breakage, what do I do?
I'm a 2something/3something. Started modified CG routine on 6/6/05
Cut more than ten inches from my BSL hair on 8-10-05 and growing it long again
But we're STILL adjusting.
I dont't know if this helps, but if you went from brushing your hair to not brishing your hair, it will seem like you are shedding more (especially in the shower) because all that hair that would normally get onto the brush just stays in with the rest of your hair until you finger comb it. As far as what to do if its breakage... are your ponytail holders too tight? Sorry if that doesn't help much... but I just know that I shed a lot less in the shower when I used to brush all the time, but I think I shed less overall.
currently loving the deva line
If it is breakage, you can do a lot of deep conditioning treatments to make the hair stronger. If it isn't breakage, do them anyway! The more moisture the better.

I shed too... good point on the brushing..... it does sound normal....
three a. I have always been a curly girl who always wanted straight hair till my old hairdresser convinced me to go curly. I have been styling my hair for about three years and my hair keeps getting better and better. I have a variety of routines but have cut down on experimenting products and found a good stylist who cuts my hair (although he cuts it wet, its hard to find one where I live, but I am happy with him).
Actually, since starting CG and ditching my brush, I seem to be shedding less. It's just that since I've started CG I'm trying to listen to my hair, instead of fighting it. Before, I just said, well, my hair's not thinning so I don't care. But now I do care!

I don't really use ponytail holders. I don't usually have time for even a ponytail!

I drenched my hair in warm olive oil on Saturday night, let it sit for thirty minutes then rinsed. Sunday morning before church I spent at least half an hour trying to get most of the oil out of my hair. It didn't work. My hair looked greasy. It looked dirty greasy. (Even though I CO washed and my hair only smelled like CO!) But today it looked great! Shiny, healthy, curly . . . . I may do the same treatment again! Even if I have to put up with another greasy day!

If anyone is still reading this . . . . I used plain olive oil for two main reasons, 1)I'm a scavenger (I don't like buying things for only one purpose) and that was the only DT ingredient I had besides CO 2)I am currently going through a bottle of CO every week and that does not make CG cheaper than my previous routine!

That sounds great! Normally, I mix olive oil, honey, and conditioner to do my deep treatments. I've never tried plain olive oil because I thought it would be too greasy, but now I might try it.

If you're having alot of breakage then you may want to try a protein treatment on a rare occasion. I like the Sally's generic version of Joico K-pak. The original version is great but the generic version is just as good and about a 1/4th of the price tag - 5.95. I do it about once every 4 months and it makes a nice difference, and my hair seems stronger and more resilient afterwards. But be sure to follow with a good deep conditioning/moisturizing treatment afterwards for at least 30 mins. Jessicurls WDT is my favorite for this. I did this combo last night in fact, and my hair feels brand new today. :cowboy:cowboy.gif

Okay, what is K-pak? I hear it mentioned fairly often, but I have no idea what it is . . . . .

K-pak is a protein treatment made by Joico (Joico K-Pak), it's a really good PT, but a bit pricey. There is an identical cheaper version that can be found at Sally's. Here is the link to a photo and description of it. HTH

If there is no bulb it's definitely breakage.

K-Pak is excellent for arresting the problem, and would be my #1 choice. I also like Aveda's deep penetrating revitalizer for heavy duty protein tmt. Lots of people seem to like Nexxus Emergence, but I found it drying - this was when I had relaxed hair and breakage was sometimes an issue. Another good, not so heavy duty protein tmt is Nexxus Keraphix.
