b4 I splurge on B&A...abba weightless or biolage gelee?

I am putting off buying the B&A gel that you all seem to use and love so much. although both of my "drugstore alternatives" are pretty pricey. any preference/comments on either abba weightless or biloage gelee

kimmyc 06-20-2005 05:48 PM

I prefer Abba Weightless but I know alot of people on here love both. That's a tough call. They both have good hold, Gelee just gets a little too crunchy on me and my curls sometimes get a little thin/stringy with it.

B&A! B&A! B&A! B&A! B&A! *chanted in a tough guy football voice*

Well of course I'm right there chanting with you but I was advising if she were to go with one of the others. :?

itsjustmeghan 06-20-2005 07:46 PM

hehehe

well i actually just got a sample of abba weightless so i'll let you know how it goes. as for the biolage gelee, i used the suave version for a LONG time. i think i stopped because it wasn't giving me the clumps i wanted...
good luck on your quest!

I swapped away my Weightless Gel, then bought another to try again since so many rave about it. Still not right for me. I get small stringy curls -- it's probably the protein.

Still, if your hair is not sensitive to proteins, it might work.

Tell me all about B&A

I think I will have to go for the B&A. Hopefully it is a thinner gel and a little goes a long way.so tell me all about how great it is and how to use it for OPTIMUM CURLS :)
I may try the HARMON version of Biolage gelee...
Suzen let me know if you want to get rid of the Abba that you just bought to try again, did you find it in NY for a reasonable price?

skywatcher 06-21-2005 08:31 AM

Well, I like the Biolage Gelee too, when I am looking for mega hold.

But the B&A Gel takes the cake. No matter what I try, I always fall back to this as my most reliable styling product. I get super soft, wonderful curls with this!! It is a thinner gel & I tend to be heavy handed with products, but I am still on my first bottle & I have it quite a while now. So it does last long.

I also have to recommend that if you are ordering the B&A Gel, that you also order the Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner as well to use as a leave-in. It seems to make any gel I use work better to give me nice clumpy, soft curls.

HTH! :D

It is a thin gel, I don't know how they get it to work so well since I normally get stringly little clumps from thin gels. A little does go a long way and the bottle is a big 16-ouncer, so it's not as expensive as it sounds. And it has a nice coconut fragrance.

I think I bought the Abba Weightless at Trade Secret the first time, and at a beauty supply store the second time, both in NJ. It's about $12 anyplace around here, I've never seen it for less. Oh, wait, you mentioned Harmon Discount Cosmetics, they carry it there!!! And I think it must be at least a little cheaper there, they have good prices.

I probably should swap it again, but I am going to try it again before I write it off for good. Somehow I am determined to figure it out.

miacurl 06-21-2005 08:48 AM

I have gone through 2 bottles of Abba Weightless. I used it last summer like a reg. gel--my hair was curly but very tangly and HUGE! Then I gave it to a neighbor. In the cool weather I got a bottle on swap. DH scared me off of swapping products, but I again used it and my hair was tangly. I sent it off to my cousin. Then i bought one again (do I ever learn???) and I use it over or under my cream of choice -- but the difference this time is that I use a coffee bean size amt and either mix it with something or rub it liberally in my hands and use it through my hair--NOW I love it. Finally I have found a way to use it!! So it is my daily product. :)

Ditto. I've tried to love Gelee, but I'm beginning to think it's more trouble than it's worth. I only get good hair if I use a leave in first, mix the gelee with water, and am XTRA careful about distributing it through my hair. Even so, I still get stringy, thin curls in the back of my crown. ARGH! :x

babypie 06-21-2005 07:43 PM

i used to switch between Gelee and B&A until i ran out of Gelee and a few weeks went by before i re-purhased. that whole time i used B&A and since i started alternating with Gelee again i realise that i prefer B&A by a long shot! Suddenly Gelee makes my hair feel drier and more producty :?

lushaholic 06-21-2005 08:07 PM

I'm chanting 'B&A' along with Meghan.

I couldn't stand Gelee and actually used it for quite a while. I used to use it and it was the whole reason I was put off from using gels for such a long time. It made my hair crunchy, producty, and dry. Plus I didn't like the scent.

As for Weightless, I have about a 3/4 bottle full and I just hardly ever use it. It give lots of body and tighter curls, but it was too crunchy and stiff usually. I keep thinking I'll sneak it back into trial one of these days, but I guess I figure I have enough good reliable products already that I don't want to mess up the routine. But maybe I should try miacurl's suggestion with the cream. Last time I used it in combination with a cream though, I got tapioca results. :o

Abba weightless- because it stands up in all humidity and is a great product when you want your curls to be frizz free

kjwavy 06-22-2005 10:35 AM

Not a 3A, but thought I'd post my thoughts...

I've never tried the B&A, but it's definitely next on my list from Curlmart!!

I love to use a small amount (pea sized or so) of Abba WG for the front/top/roots of my hair (along my scalp). I also love a bit of it mixed with just about any other gel for the rest of my hair. It gives me GREAT volume & hold :)

I like the Biolage Gelee, but I have to be careful, as it will weigh down my hair if I use too much. It tends to give me a producty feel/look when I use too much, too.

KinkyRoots 06-22-2005 02:09 PM

I'd go for Abba too, although I like both, I seem to get better curl formation with Abba.

(B&A is top of my new products to try next curlmart order, before there's more chanting!)

curlymel 06-22-2005 07:38 PM

I have never tried B&A, so I cannot comment. I have used both Abba and gelee. I love gelee. It is my fav gel. I like the way it feels putting it on my hair (slippery) and get decent hold. I don't think it is as temperamental about the amount that you put on your hair, whereas the Abba is. One thing to consider is that gelee was reformulated recently. I have not tried it recently, but some people don't like it as well as the old formulation. Sallys has a generic that some people really like (bioterra, I think). Abba is good for volume. It also has more hold IMO. If you use too much, you will not be happy with the result, so you have to experiment. Less is more with Abba.
