Default The curlier hair the harder to ger 2nd day hair?

This morning I was pondering the 2nd day hair thing we have talked about. I seem to never be able to get it. I am wondering if the curlier hair you have the harder it is to get 2nd day hair…. What do you guys think? :headscratch:headscratch.gif

My curls all get "smashed" and I get "wavy troll hair". Seems like the “wavies” have an easier time to get 2nd day hair. Not sure if I am right or not.

I always thought that the less curly the harder it was because the curls are easily crushed and pulled out in your sleep. :headscratch:headscratch.gif

I've resigned myself to be happy with 2nd day hair that I have to spray down and diffuse for a few minutes. It's better than having to re-wash, re-use CO, re-use product, and diffuse for 30 minutes.

Kurlee, I've been meaning to tell you that I'm happy that I have found you here! ! About second day hair, maybe it has to be with the texture (fine, medium..) of the hair?????? Just thinking out loud though, I could be way wrong. Maybe the amount of hair you have??? I think I have medium texture and my hair is thick and I can always achieve 2nd day hair (as long as I use lots of the right products)....hmm indeed :headscratch:headscratch.gif ....

Hehe. Yeah, nice to see you too here. (I tried that Aveeno shaving gel by the way and it is great!! Thanks!! )

Yeah, it can be a texture thing. My strands are fine, not super fine but thinner than medium. Maybe it has got to do with that. My hair also get dried out easily. Maybe the strands are less elastic that way or something...
I can for example not have my hair in a pont tail and let it down. It looks very uggly that way and is MUCH straighter. It wants to stay in the pont tail shape too. I wonder if that has something to do with this...

I have almost resigned myself to be happy with no 2nd day hair..... Hope never dies though.

That might be true ... or it might not. At the length I'm at now I am more wavy than curly, and I'm starting to get more second day hair the longer it gets. Of course, this could have more to do with styling products, routine, and weather. It seems 2nd day hair works more for me in summer. Humidity makes my hair curl more, which makes 2nd day hair better.

And think of Amneris and other curlier types - she goes for a week without washing! I don't know if she re-wets and conditions in between, but I don't think she does.

This happens to me too! That is why I can't sleep with a ponytail on at all during the night because the curls will be pulled out and if I put the ponytail on loosely, I wake up without one anyways! ...so I just ditch it at night and sleep with my hair all out!

Hmmm... That is true. She has pretty thick strands and hair though if I remember it right.

I probably will not find out why some hairs can look nice the next day and some don't. I wish I could figure it out though.

LM mentioned in her CG book that some curlies have to wet their hair every day and can't get 2nd day hair. I think she even was so bold to say MOST curlies have to re wet their hair.

I can rarely get first-day hair But seriously, I would have thought the loose the curl, the harder it is to bring them back to life after tossing and turning all night. I always thought with tighter curls you could just spray 'em to re-clump and then apply a bit of product? But hey I'm only guessing, as I don't have 3C or whatever hair LOL.

Me too. After letting down a ponytail, the back of hair especially gets much straighter. And I always lose the loose ponytail if I try to sleep in it.

I can't do the ponytails either for this reason, but I can do a loose pineapple to sleep on.

i can get 2nd day hair, BUT i have to remind myself that my hair is NOT going to look the same as it did the day before. much looser curls, not as clumped, and usually kinda stringy. so i guess if there are people who can actually get their 2nd day hair to look like their 1st day hair...well darn... i guess i can't get 2nd day hair at all!

This is my case too.
Hehe While reading this I was thinking that we CAN ALL get UGLY 2nd day hair. It is very different to get nice looking 2nd day hair. *I now see a super market in my mind with people with ugly 2nd day hair*
Well, it was fun in my head at least.
Sorry about the weird post. Swedes have weird sense of humor.

This is the same for me too. If I have worn a pony @ work all day I have to re-wet my hair to let it down or it looks really strange.

I'm quite lucky that with the right products (and the moon and stars aligned!) I can get better hair on day two and sometimes even day 3. I sleep with a loose pineapple and lightly spritz with lavender water in the morning. My hairs a medium texture and thick so the flat bits underneath can be hidden

And I thought that I was the only weird one . . . . . . . well, I probably still am the only weird one, but I can't get 2nd day hair either!
I don't like to style my hair very often because my hair holds the shape (even when I'm not using styling products) and I like to be able to take my hair down when it starts to annoy me that it's up.

i wouldn't call what i just did "2nd day hair," but i did do it last night and woke up with it looking great. i did a DT from about 7:30-8:30, then scrunched in b&a and angell (thanks for those who recommended this combo) then plopped and let air dry. by the time i went to bed it was still damp, so i just flipped my hair up over my head so i wasn't laying on it (i also have a satin pillowcase) and when i woke up this morning, i didn't have to do a thing to it. i took some pics and will try to post them later

Pixiecurl, last night you did what I have done for yrs (plopping for a bit, letting hair air dry and sleeping with the hair on pillow behind ur head) and the funny thing is last night I did what you guys usually do (pineapple). I decided to give it a try again and it worked better than I expected. I think I like the no ponytail method better though (because I have to do less to my hair in the am) but I'm surprised that the pineapple gave me good results. I didn't lose the ponytail during the night, yey! I think its cause my hair is long enough now to hold it (I'm growing out a short cut). I did notice that with the pineapple my hair wasn't fully dry in the morning plus I had to spray leave in to revive some of the pulled out curls. The extra work is what I didn't like about the pineapple. I posted pics this am after trying this. They're the last 3 pics on the album.

Hey! You're talking about me!
No, I don't wet my hair more than once a week. I mostly just moisturize with oil or a moisturizer. I do have coarse strands and very thick hair so I think that is why I can do it - my hair holds its curl, or any changes to the curls that I make, very well. I also learned to do it out of necessity - in a cold climate, you can't wet your hair daily in winter, especially when, like mine, it takes hours to dry.
