Ideal Hair Length?

I've been growing my hair out, (and really happy with it) until I saw itsjustmeghan's goal hair pic, then I wanted THAT! My sister keeps mentioning how long my hair is, and I think if I were to cut off 10inches to donate to Locks of Love, it'd be just about shoulder length... but I was just wondering about other curlies with my hairtype... what do you think is your ideal length?

(Also, as much as I know that "any hair is professional as long as its well kept," I was thinking that around shoulder length hair may give me a more "put together" appearance than BSL for my upcoming interviews as I finish up my last semester of college...)

I wore my hair right around shoulder length for many years. I thought my hair was just wavy. Then a couple of years ago, something got into me and I started letting it grow. It got curlier! There were spirals!

So now it's about 3 inches below my shoulders. I will be keeping it around this length.

My hair is shoulder length at the back but a bit shorter at the sides & I am growing out layers (or growing them longer anyway). I would really like it about 3 inches below shoulders too. 8)
The annoying thing is if it was straight it would be below shoulders but I have not straightened for about a year now & don't intend to either!

the thing i LOVE about that cut is that it's short enough to be spunky, long enough to be "long hair", but styled enough to look like you tried to get it that way.
i don't know if i'll do that exact cut, but i'll probably try to stick to something like that. maybe a longer version of it. i've never had my hair layered with it was longer, so i think it's worth a shot!

if you can donate hair while looking fabulous, then GO FOR IT!

just be sure to post pictures!

I have been wondering about this too. :headscratch:headscratch.gif

I think long curly hair can look really beautiful and professional. One way I have seen people wear it is to pull a small section from each side and hold it in a little clip in the back, where the rest stays down. As long as it's taken care of, long hair can look really nice, several of the company managers I work with have waist length hair.

Yea, I have an appointment on Saturday, and I'm bringing your goal hair pics, itsjustmeghan! I'll be sure to post pics, as my cut (I hope) is going to be fairly drastic.

itsjustmeghan 06-29-2005 03:05 PM

My ideal length would be tailbone. I have 5.5" left to go before reaching my goal.

Dayzie 07-07-2005 10:25 PM

Mid-back is my goal at this point, but I always manage to talk myself into cutting it when it gets passed my shoulders. However my hair is different now, with the new prods I've been using, and I think it would look a lot like SJPs hair (fingers crossed). We'll see, I've got a good 6 or 7 inches left to go. It could be awhile.

Kurlee 07-09-2005 01:26 AM

*Sigh*
I have tried to grow my hair out so many times. When it gets a bit passed my shoulders I always start hating it. Too much frizz and it looks unkept. I am going to get an appoinment to get it cut off some as soon as I can now.

I wouldn't donate my hair to locks of love.

the hair you donate is unlikely to make it to someone who needs it, but is otherwise unable to afford a human hair wig.

I'll scour around and get the information on it, but I worked a short stint with a wigmaker who explained that the wigs are just too expensive and too labour intensive to just donate without selling the majority of hair on the commercial hair market. after making hair peices, I completely understand - you are basically latch hooking hair onto a fine net, one hair at a time. a fast wigmaker can make a full head wig in about ten days, and the price tag runs into the thousands.

your hair is more likely to end up in a weave for someone who wants instant gratifiaction long hair now, if you donate lengths over 24 inches (straight.) hair shorter than that is more likely to be used as hairpeices and toupees. and naturally curly hair isn't used at all until its been chemically straightened--it would take a master wigmaker to be able to hook the hairs so consistently that the curl patterns would fall correctly and not degenerate into a cloud of frizz. and if a wigmaker could do it, the price tag would be five figures, easy. Curly human hair wigs are permed.

sirenrising, where did you go for your cut? At Devachan they seem pretty anti -noticably shorter hair. I was all set to have all of my highlighted ends cut off even if that meant 4-6 inches. I wanted a really styled looking haircut, and to lose the dry canopy, which I got. Carlos didn't take off nearly that much, but he did really deepen the layers so I have clumps/spirals now. I really love Shannyn's cut, though.

Hope it went well!
we're awaiting your pics . . .

itsjustmeghan 07-10-2005 07:31 PM

oh i wish i could get to devachan for a cut...
that'd take a LOT of money though...
i guess i'll live...

My ideal hair length is classic length. I like my hair to be extremely short or extremely long so if I ever decide to cut it off, I'm cutting it all off. That's probably not going to happen though...so I'm going for extremely long. :D

Sorry I didn't see this until now. I went to Mane Tamer in Pikesville, MD, and they seemed really receptive to whatever I wanted to do. I posted one pic a while ago, but I don't think it is up anymore... hopefully I can get some good ones up here once my camera decides to start working again :? :D

My goal is BSL. The longer my hair gets the curlier it gets!

pixiGirl 08-02-2005 07:09 PM

a little above waist length (it was there long long ago)
i have a way to go...it's not even to my shoulders yet (chin length) ahhh!! oh well...at least it may be healthy at that length this time. :)

wavy~me~curly 08-03-2005 09:07 AM

Every time I happen to see Guiding Light is on, I see Cassie's hair, and think how nice her hair looks at just barely above shoulder, so full - I wonder about cutting mine, but never do.
