Honey - God's gift to curls :)

Yikes! I tried honey in my hair today mixed in with some gel and.....oohhh boy.
While it was drying, I thought my curls had more spring, but now that its almost completely dry, my hair is a hard, frizzy mess! I can't SOTC no matter how hard I try! argh.
I want to love honey but my hair is horrible today! Anybody else had this issue?

Hey Stephy: I came upon this thread about a week ago and thought I'd give the honey thing a try. It has worked amazingly well in my 3B fine hair. I only use it in my rinse-out condish, probably a 1:3 ratio (1 being honey). I did this 4 days in a row and had very shiny, bouncy curls with lots of volume. Then I read on here that you shouldn't use it every day because it could lighten your hair; however, others say you can. So, I didn't use it for 3 days of either co-washing or low-pooing, and my hair looked like what you are describing without the crunch though (and I didn't mix it with a gel). Maybe you should try using it in your rinse-out condish and see if this works better.

I looked at several articles on the internet about honey lightening your hair (since this is what I don't want with dark brown hair). Most articles say you have to leave it on for several hours and apply some type of heat or sit in the sun with a plastic cap on (or something like that).

Loving honey as well.

I have been mixing it with my conditioner (about one drop for every two pumps) and I like the results.
I originally started using it to try to lighten my hair after dying it too dark.
My hair really hasn't lightened that much but my curls are nice and pretty.

Just wondering if any of you have used clover honey?
That's the kind I have readily available and I'm eager to try it like, right now.

Anyone doing honey rinses!?

They give me crazy shine!

I rinse with honey and then immediately cover with coconut oil. I'll leave that in over night rinse in the morning, add cheapie condish + gel

I tried a honey wash last night. My hair dried full of volume and really soft. My curls went boing and shrunk quite a bit. But I also added a bit of mag sulfate & honey to my FSG and added that to my hair after my wash.

And I've tried it adding to a rinse-out condish and ACV rinse and it worked well. It seems to add strength and moisture to my coarse hairs, but too much honey causes a frizz mess - too much moisture it think.

So glad I found this thread. I'm going to buy some honey or molasses today and try it in the next couple of days. Thinking of adding a couple drops to my curl creme or with my leave in.

So I added a bit more honey than recomended with my leave in, cause I figured I would not use gel that day, so it would all work out. Boy was that a mistake! My hair looked ok, but felt like plastic! It was so hard, it was terrible. Others beware, use only a tiny amount with your styling product.

Honey is my new gel! I put in a drop of honey with the 3 pumps of biotera curl creme I usually add per section. Then I SOTC/dried my hair to about 40% dry with some paper towels. My curls are so well defined, frizz is minimal, and the curls are shiny. All with just a few drops of honey! I dont think I will ever need to buy gel anymore...

I'm SO glad someone posted this!!

I was in a pinch earlier today as I have very little gel left and hadn't had the opportunity to get more. I tried a honey rinse (1 tablespoon of honey dissolved in 1.5 cups of warm water), applied my leave-in and about half the amount of gel I usually use and am happy to report that my hair is very shiny and bouncy with good curl definition and a good amount of hold. I might just make this a part of my routine! Thanks gals!

I tried a honey rinse today (1Tbs honey in 1cup+ water) and didn't like the results. My hair took FOREVER to dry and felt stiff and sticky all day. I also thought my hair looked dull and dirty. This was a surprise because others have said how shiny their hair is after a honey rinse...I did have great curl formation, but I'm not happy if my hair isn't soft and "touchable". So I rinsed it out this afternoon, added a bit of One-C, let it air dry and am happy again. I'm wondering if perhaps my honey/water ratio was off and if I used less honey in the future I might have better results. I've added honey to my conditioner in the past and was happy with that, but the rinse just didn't turn out as expected.

Wow, I've never heard of this honey trick before. I'm totally going to try it.

So, just a squirt mixed in with conditioner will work, right?
ugh, thank the lord i found this thread!!! my hair has been in dire straits lately, dry, frizzy, a nasty big old mess no matter what i do! well, i am in desperate need of a serious cut, which luckily i am getting one a week from today (can't come soon enough, i keep eying my clippers for a nice shave), so hopefully that will solve most problems.

so i ended up co-washing last night and put a little honey throughout it while doing other shower duties. once i rinsed it felt sooooo smooth and soft. also tried the alba curl cream for the 1st time last night (which by the texture alone i can tell might be an hg). was drying super nice, but fell asleep before it dried.

so woke up today looking like a crazy lady. so i wet it down as i always do in the morning, didn't bother putting in a LI, put in some more of the curl cream with just a dab of honey mixed in, and once again, hair was super smooth and soft. it's still drying so i can't report definite results, but it seems to be drying with nice curl formation and smooth texture.

wooHOO, thank you ladies! we'll see how it dries, and if it remains consistent with every wash..

I add honey to ACV rinses, rinse out condish, and to my FSG recipe. It makes my hair shiny and bouncy, and when I add to FSG it adds a little hold too. However, the first time I added honey to FSG, i added way too much and my hair was horrible(completely unable to SOTC, but the same thing happens when i use to much AVG as well so moderation seems to be key for me).
