flat sections in your curls?

does anyone else have this problem?
i look at the front of my hair, and the two pieces on either side of my face look like i used a GIANT curling iron on them. i maybe get one turn over the length...so when i see that i think to myself "man, i'm having a no curl day...that or i'm a 2a or something"

but yesterday when i was feeling this way, i picked up my mirror and looked at the back/sides, and it's covered with bouncy happy shiney 3a spirals! :D
short of using a curling iron to get them to match, what do you do with those sections of hair that won't curl? :?

plus. i have a theory as to why these pieces don't curl as well...they are the shortest two pieces of hair i have. all of the other pieces are longer...
do you think that as it grows longer, they will curl more like the rest of my hair? i just hate having to look at the back of my head to fall in love with my hair! :(

help!

Meghan, I have the same problem and I do think it's because of it being shorter on top. When I do manage to get it curly on top, it's too poofy and it looks like one of those puffs that poodles have  .

My hair always feels straighter but like you, when I look in the mirror, there's usually curls all over or if nothing else, nice waves.

i have some parts of the underside in front -especially on the left side - that are barely wavy. i try to hide them behind my ear and underneath the curlier top layer.

I have a piece at the right hand side of my fringe that falls straight & always goes in my eye! Really annoyingly. In fact Im quite close to chopping it off.
My fringe is nose length when pulled straight but the rest of it bounces up nicely to my eyebrows. There are other straight bits in my hair, but I can ignore those.
I often wonder what my curls would be like with no layers & no fringe, probably still wouldn't be even.

Mostly just the top of my head. It is curling higher since I started CG. Which reminds me, I have to go rinse out my Protein Treatment!! I meant for it to sit 1 hour, but it's been two hours already!!!

Not sure if I'm a 3A, but////

My shortest hairs at the the very back of my neck. These pieces dont' curl vey well, but they seem to be getting "better" as I grow my hair out. The same thing happened with my short layers by my face. They are now long enough to curl into nice ringlets. :-) This makes me think I am more 3A than 2B, because my hair definitely seems to get curlier (more ringlets) as it gets longer, almost like the hair needs "room" to curl.

I hate this! It drives me crazy, my flat curls are on the side towards the back and I just try to twist em to work with a little extra gel if that fails I break out the curling iron :D

Left side, towards to the top isn't as curly as the rest. Annoying

YES this is the thing I HATE. I dislike wearing my hair down at times because the front looks good but the top-layer in the back is flat against my head, wavy-like... it frustrates me, because wearing my hair half up looks great in the back (where all the curly front top layer is gathered, and then you see this straight or barely wavy hair underneath on the outsides while all the undercurls that I like go unseen.. it's a a sad thing! I dontated to Locks of Love last summer and my hair's getting longer.. I'll have to see if the problem gets worse/better as it grows out.. it's been a while since the cut, so I don't really know.

This is my number two pet peeve about my hair (number one being that it just won't look the same from day to day).

Mine are on the sides, underneath, and I do what Pixiecurl said, since my hair is still growing out: tuck 'em behind my ears.

I do find that they get curlier with length, but they never make full ringlets and spirals like the rest of my hair. I plan on actually trimming them to be a little shorter than the top layers, so they won't be as visible. After I get more length, of course.

Yup. I too have the same problem, and it has gotten worse with the graying of certain portions of my hair. It is quite visible in my photos you can see at the www in the side shots of my hair.
