Petitfox--sorry I asked you a question you had already answered. Our postings were almost simultaneous and I asked you how you liked it before I read your initial post. I am so glad to hear others having the same experience that Sweetpickles and I seem to have with it. With a lot of gels, my hair looks good for the first hour and then just fizzles out. But, with RockHard, I am blown away by how well my hair holds up all day, even after I exercise. The quantity does take a while to adjust (not too much, not too little) but once you get that down, this stuff works to keep away frizz and hold the curl. So, PixieCurl, maybe you would like it...Sorry to go on and on but this is a first for me in my pursuit for all-day more-curl-less-frizz.

It tried it this a.m. over a leave-in and some RR/CCSS. My hair is rock hard and stuck to my head. I can't get the crunch out or any volume. I will say the curls are in place and little frizz (even with 90 degree temps and 100% humidity). I diffused dry after using it.

I even tried scrunching with a little cream to loosen it. It's awful. I used maybe a qtr's worth.

Suggestions??

icequeen, I'm sorry that it came out so hard! I guess there is a danger that it does that. I can feel it when it is drying, that it could be really bad if I used too much...
I am using nothing else but this gel, over my all-left-in One C. Maybe with the CCSS it was overkill?

I diffuse my hair almost immediately after plopping (meaning I don't plop as long), and make sure I diffuse my roots in all other directions but the normal gravity direction.
I flip my head to the sides, and also upside down.
I think the amount I am using now (about 1 1/2 to 2 quarters, it's hard to describe) is the max amount for my lenght. (almost shoulder when wet, slightly lower than chin when dry). I will try to use less and see what results I get... I got little flakes in two spots where the gel was not distributed well enough . It can be tricky.
This busts frizz like nothing else for me, so I'm sticking with my positive review. I think a couple more tries, and I'll have the perfect amount nailed down.

I hope it gets better for you

It sounds like we diffuse the same way. Maybe I should try it once more just over my Bumble and Bumble leave-in. I tried it in dry hair last night (just one small section since I had a head full of frizz) and it was the same as putting it in wet hair today. I thought wet hair would soften it.
I am cringing every time I look in a mirror today. A long day at work....

I even tried flipping my head over and literally ripping my fingers through the curls and hard spots. A little more volume, the curls held in place and still rock hard. Sigh...............

Icequeen, this does not bode well for working on your hair! It sounds like a complete disaster. I have always imagined your hair to be curlier and less frizzy than mine, so maybe that's why. Plus, does your hair do better with more natural feeling stuff for the most part? This is an understatement in your case--but it is easy to get crunch with this gel. Maybe this gel will only work for a discrete population of curlies. It gives very aggressive hold--if we could just figure out what it is about hair like mine that absolutely loves this stuff. But I would give it one more try on a day when you don't have to leave the house (yeah right) and use way less on wet or damp hair. Or bag it altogether--hair products shouldn't have to be so hard to use!

Thanks benthudd and petitfox. I just walked by the mirror and absolutely cringed. It's heading for the swap board. I do like very natural feeling products which may be part of the issue. There is no question that it has great hold, shine and no frizz!

Amen to hair products that should be easy to use. No question about it. The search continues in my case!

Again thanks for the help and support. This forum is the best.

Off to post on the swap board.

A footnote to my post....by evening the crunch was gone but the curls were still in place. I think it's worth trying for others. It has many strong points and I probably should have given it a second chance. I just don't care for a crunchy feel. However, it's gone and I'm moving to new experiments!

I broke down and bought this, but I have no regrets!
(The Angell I was using requires humidity to hold curls. We're in a drought, here)
Biosilk RH is just the extra hold I wanted.

The reason I bought it though, was the mention of Volume on the label.
It Delivers!!

It's like a better version of ABBA WG, w/no mica and low protein. I 'll have to see how the silk does long term in my hair.

I only had time to rinse my hair out after the pool quickly (No-poo and One C) then I had to rinse fast upside down, and plop. Plopping can give me mixed results and since I put the gel on upside down hair, I'm not sure I got the canopy as perfectly as I could. It dried fast, with very little crunch actually. And it's curly and soft. My day two hair looks perfectly frizz-free even though I lost my pineapple in my sleep.

I can't wait to try combing it in and doing the Skip curl method: ringlets!

I see a lot of happy users are often Diffusers for volume. Is this working as well for each of you with airdrying, as it is for Benthudd and myself?

How are you each applying it?

We need to tell Chelle about this, it could be great for her!

I only diffuse (unless I'm not leaving the house, in which case I don't even bother with product or diffusing!) and have had great results with it. Lots of volume, more so than with the ABBA. I can't air dry if I hope to have any volume and good curl formation.

I turn upside down, rake my hair, apply a bit of leave in followed by a tiny bit of leave-in mixed with CK, and then apply the gel in sections. I scruch with a t-shirt, and then diffuse (I'm upside-down this whole time).

Yes, she might like it! It could be too much hold/crunch for her though. I think she tends to like more 'natural' feeling products. I myself prefer to have some crunch, that way I know the curls are going to hold up.

I'm soon planning to try slightly less Biosilk RHG than yesterday, and in another experiment, trying RHG mixed with Angell.
I'll keep you posted.
I hope the protein won't backfire like HE hum.def.gel did. I want a product I can trust.

I try not to layer, but it would be great to get the clumps and natural feel of Angell, with the hold from RHG, with some of the shine as well.

wavymecurly--When my hair is drying (air drying or diffusing), I scrunch it a lot upside down and every which way. (Maybe that takes away a lot of the RHG crunch off the bat?) And I use what seems like a lot of RHG --about 2 quarter's worth on wet hair. And another nickle's worth when my hair has dried a little and I am scrunching (sometimes my hands get sticky doing this but it does not seem to cause frizz). Just for the heck of it, I tried some PM gel (the maximum hold kind) yesterday and the results compared with RHG were like night and day. My hair was a poofy mess all day. But today, using the RHG again, my hair is curly and frizz-free. Hope4long, thanks! You're right, I have searched ever since I discovered this site over a year ago for a product to make my hair more curly and defined but less frizzy. I think I must have first read about RHG from sweetpickles (thanks!). And to think I had this sitting in my cabinet for months without even knowing what I really had.

Yes, Thank you Sweetpickles and Benthudd for calling this to my attention. It hasn't exactly been a secret, but reading about it from you all really made me notice and consider it for my kind of hair.
I love the volume!
Now I really should take some pics...

Wow! Second day hair that held up at and in the pool even.

I combed in the BRH this afternoon though, and I got stringy uneven results. I still got the volume and nice smooth feel, but not the same great curls. I was thinking it reminded me of CK how smooth it made the cuticle, so I wanted to try JT's skip curl method. Maybe it's my haircut, not right for this technique, or the BRH, but hey - if scrunching in BRH plopping and doing nothing gave as good results as yesterday and this morning, then I'm happy to spend less time combing and twisting!

I could have written this myself!!! Thank you, thank you, benthudd & SweetPickles, for raving about the RHG!!! I tried the sample that benthudd sent me this morning, after I clarified with Kenra Clarifying & did an ACV rinse. I used NO conditioner, because the last 2 days, my hair was AWFUL - very flat & almost straight

Anyway, I combed in one quarter sized blob of RR/CCSS, then scrunched in another blob & plopped into a t-shirt. I got dressed, then applied 2 blobs of RHG. The first one, I applied on the top of my hair (as if pulling my hair back into a ponytail), then I scrunched in the 2nd blob. I diffused using PixieCurl's method until about 80% dry. I took some pics (they're the last few dated today).

I'm not a 3A, but I just wanted to RAVE for this gel in this thread!! Wave~me~curly, I'd love to see some pics!!

ETA: I went to Ulta & picked up THREE tubes of this - they had it buy 2, get one free

kjwavy, your hair looks great - volume and shape and so much height at the top! I'm jealous, what do you do for lift, just diffuse upside down?
I'm going to have to try a little diffusing (it's so hot though)
Oh, and I'm jealous of that great deal - I just bought mine at Ulta Wednesday, and they didn't have any deals, oh well.

I'm working on the pics. I have to take them or get DH to, load them on the one computer which talks to the camera card, transfer them to the other computer which has the wireless internet, then add them to Fotki. Okay, really I'm lazy, but I work on my computer, and I get paid by the page, so I really must force myself to take a longer break than just checking thread-responses.

OK, I think it's official. I love this gel!

I've only used it a few days, but have had good results each time. Today I had the best results yet, in the worst possible weather (90 degree heat, 95% humidity).

I did a CO wash (did an ACV yesterday) and figured because of the humidity I would be better off using an oil/honey/shea butter blend I make instead of conditioner. I brushed it through my wet hair then rinsed it out. Afterwards, I did a weak honey/water rinse and blotted my hair. I applied about 2 quarter-sized blobs through my hair in sections, and scrunched it through. I let it airdry completely (which took about 4 hours because of the humidity). It looks awesome, and I have NO frizz, even after spending about 30 minutes outside. My hair feels silky and looks really shiny (healthy shiny, not producty shiny). I think I have found another HG. I now feel the need to go out and buy a few more bottles for some reason...

wavy~me~curly - thanks so much I'm *kinda* in the process of growing out my bangs, so yes, I just diffused upside down. Because my top layers are so short (and this gel is so AWESOME), I really got a lot of height. I would've had GREAT 2nd day hair this AM, but we did yard work, & I sweated so bad that I washed my hair again today. I did the same routine, except I put the RHG in right after the RR/CCSS combo, THEN put it in the t-shirt. Today, I blew my bangs straight, but just sort of held my fingers in top front to hold it up while I diffused, & got great height

jax3cats - isn't this stuff amazing!?!? I have actually run my fingers through my hair to fluff it up off of my scalp - absolutely NO FRIZZ!!! The hold is incredible!!

Ulta has buy one styling or finishing product, get any one 50% off starting today (mix & match brands), so I just may go & pick up a couple of more tubes!! Next time I wash (which will probably be Tuesday), I'm going to try it over the AG Re:coil. I'm almost thinking that this stuff would work wonders over ANYTHING!!
