INGREDIENTS ur hair LOVES and HATES

I'm still learning about my hair and what it likes and dislikes, but this is what I know so far:

My hair LOVES olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, proteins and honey! It loves ACV rinses too. It also likes aloe and glycerin in products only and gentle sulfates/surfactants.

Indifferent to water-soluble cones, petrochemicals (low on ingredient list only) and polyquats.

My hair HATES alcohol, cones and harsh sulfates esp. SLS!!!!!

Guess my hair isn't too fussy and picky as long as it is moisturized, but it can definitely get over moisturized.

Ok, it seems I have to ditto almost everything you said, teehee.

The verdict is still out on the coconut oil though. I have alot of products with this ingredient and it's fine, but there are some that have it and it hates them. It loves almost every oil, especially avocado oil! And just like you said, mine absolutely ADORES honey!!

I hear you! It's hard to pinpoint certain ingredients...aloe vera gave me the exact same problem coconut oil is giving you. It is still in that grey area for me. I can't just use it straight in my hair but it could also be the carbomer in the FOTE gel that my hair dislikes....

...don't know for sure. In other products aloe seems fine.

I'm happy I've learned to listen to my hair on what it likes, it saves me money! Funny because I have always read labels on everything else (food, skincare..) but I never paid attention to my hair products. Haircare was so not important for me until I came to NC.com and you guys inspired me to find out my hair potential. I love NC!!!

What effect does the aloe have on your hair? I've actually wondered about this ingredient too because when I used the LOTD aloe vera gel, my hair seemed a bit drier and poofier, but I thought it was supposed to be moisturizing. It was also an ingredient in the LLL Coco Light (along with coconut oil) and my hair hated that. Maybe it depends on how much of those ingredients are in the product, or how far down on the ingred.list they are.

Exactly what you said! My hair felt dry and looked poofy, no definition whatsoever! I used the FOTE gel only with a bit of my regular E MBC leave-in underneath and that's it. It did NOT work for me and I tried this twice.

I have other products with aloe in the middle or lower in the ingredient list and it seems fine.

So confusing...

My hair loves: coconut oil (in moderation), proteins, honey, water soluble cones, oh & everything in EMBC.

My hair hates: lemonaid(too drying), glycerin (makes it pouffy), sulphates, alcohol.

I think my hair mostly do not like sulfates and other harsh cleansers.
I have to be careful with jojoba oil too.
