Welcome I'mCurly!

You look like a 3b/c combo. You have beautiful hair.

Not sure about what can be done to reduce your bulk, beyond possibly getting some type of layers in the back and keeping your length on top and around the front. I'm clueless when it comes to this. I'm sure some more knowledgeable curlies can give you better advice on this.
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

Hey and welcome

I think that you are a 3c as far as your curls go and your hair looks very healthy. The only way that I know to reduce bulk is to get a tunnel cut. My har is "bulky" all over and I have learned to sort of embrace it. HTH

Shyygirl723: thanks for the advice and the compliment. Your pictures are great too! The energy you display is amazing.

lipglasshoney: Thanks for the "healthy hair" copliment -- I always wondered about that. I've had strictly virgin hair all of my life, now I think I want to experiment with color -- I love Holly Robinson Peete's and Chilli's (TLC) color. My hair is JET, JET black, any coloring tips?
Also, not familiar with any hair salons especially dealing with natural hair in Atlanta, but I'll do my research and try to find a good one that specializes in cutting/maintaining curly hair. Thx. for the tunnel cut tip!

Your hair is very pretty and I love it! You look 3b/c to me, with a lot of 3c. Your hair is awesome!

Kinky Curly Jojoba Jelly was the king of bulk reduction with long lasting results all day but it is now discontinued There is a thread here about homemade substitutes that might work (I haven't tried them yet). If you check out my "Fabulous Product Combinations" thread on the 3b board, just about all of those combinations work on my hair to keep it laying flat and controlled all day. Also, if I air dry and don't touch my hair at all it looks its best.. It's only when I start playing with my curls that I get in trouble

Anyway, WELCOME!

I know the tunnel cut has worked for some, but beware... many hate it. I have cut out volume in the past (crazy pregnant lady syndrome) and it is a real drag growing it back out. Layers all around did a much better job of reducing volume for me. I actually like volume, but I had too much in the back, it practically stuck out horizontally. Now its much more even. I looked at your beautiful pictures... it doesn't look like too much volume to me, JMO.

What bulk? I donīt see any bulk in your pictures! Very nice hair. I think itīs a 3c. I have a lot of hair and noticed that flaxseed gel has helped me to control it, plus shea butter and aloe.

Okay guys, I appreciate all of the great compliments and advice, but no bulk!?! Obviously my pictures are lying I'm going to try to borrow my sister's digital camera and take some back view pics. Honestly, it's very bulky. At current length and straight, it comes past my bra strap -- lots of length that the back can't handle. I have serious shrinkage as well. I'm so scared to try layers!
Thanks for the salon tip as well!

But bulk or no bulk, your hair looks shiny and pretty! Welcome to the group! I got layers cut recently and though my hair still looks full, I don't have the bulky wedge look in the back that I sometimes used to. Certain products like Curltopia recommends might help you with that too. And as far as shrinkage, healthy, curly hair just shrinks, doesn't it?

Subbrock,
That straight here picture was taken a few years ago - sorry. My hair straight today would be way past my bra strap -- much longer that the straight hair picture provided and an idea of how much shrinkage I'm experiencing. An example would be urbancurls curly hair length is my hair length straight (yikes!)
Thanks for the comment though - much appreciated!
