What am I doing wrong?

I've heard people talking about their five minute routines, a concept that I can't even wrap my mind around. On days when I wear a ponytail, it usually requires 15 minutes (icluding a short shower). If I want to wear it out, even with just a headband, my record for most time spent has hit about 2hrs at times (unless I do some prep work the night before). What am I doing wrong? I know that some people have shorter hair, but mine isn't really that long anyway and I'm getting sick and tired of all of the work that I have to do. Please help!

My "routine" is very sketchy. It varies from day to day. Sometimes I just wet my hair enough to get it into a pony tail. But on a good day, I will have "washed" it the night before only to get up and jump in the shower again and spend 30 mins-1 hr working condish through it (I'm really bad at this product distribution thing). I usually do ths only on days I'm going to wear it out, so after all of this I seperate it into usually 8 sections and apply Suave AV or the IC gel. Then I airdry, but this won't be possible come winter. And my hair essentially WILL NOT DRY completely unless given about 18hrs! I don't know what to do!

Hey, you look like a cousin! When I big chop, I want my hair to be about your length.

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for you . I'm still transitioning, and I have the same questions you do. I don't want to spend two hours a day doing my hair either. Most people here are doing what you're doing: adding the conditioner and gel or styling aid to sopping wet hair. However, some use a diffuser to cut down on drying time.

You could also prep your hair the day before, and in the morning mist your hair and shake it out. You'll have to ask shygirl for the details, I think she does something like this.
I sure don't have a 5 minute routine! I WISH! It takes me at least 15 mins to put my hair up nicely as well.

The only time I have a short routine is if I have braids or twists in.

my hair takes a very long time to do as well. especially when i wash it...once it's washed i "finger-curl" each curl w/ gel so that takes forever. the only time my hair doesn't take long to do is on 3rd or 4th day hair....takes about 10 minutes to spritz it w/ some water.
