Default summer heat's got me beat!

has anyone else (particularly florida gals) had trouble with their hair frying this summer? mine is getting very dry and stiff. what have you done about this? I'd like juicy summer curls not thirsty looking ones!

I'm a Florida girl and I've been using moisture like it's going out of style. I've been doing weekly deep treatments with a heat cap. ( http://www.curlmart.com/Heat-Caps-p-1-c-99.html )

I've been bunning with leave-in and a bit of oil on my ends and problem areas a lot. The key is moisture, moisture, and more moisture.

I also found out that I need protein, so I've done two homemade protein treatments so far (using soy sauce) and then deep conditioned after this. The last one I did was five days ago and my hair still looks and feels great. You should only do protein treatments if you find you need it. (I use the stretch test to check.) HTH!

i up the moisture in my routine.
ive been mixing elucence mb conditioner with jessicurl wdt and a bit of oil as a leave in. and then after that i usually spray my hair with redken's uv rescue oil spray (its discontinued so you probably wont be able to find it). normally, all the oils would leave my hair greasy but its sucking it all up!

How about a leave-in with a SPF? Aveda has some - I'm using Color Conserve Sun protect (not to conserve my color, just because I like it as a leave-in)

Also wear a hat if you're out in the sun for more than an hour or two. Sun and wind used to fry my hair when I sailed if I didn't wear one.

I've been moisturizing like crazy to beat the summer heat. This is my first summer with natural hair so this is all new to me.

a friend told me to try skipping rinsing conditioner out. in other words leave it in instead of rinsing it out. anyone else do this or tried it?

I've been doing DTs about 2x a week... and not rinsing out my conditioner all the way (leaving about 50% in). That has helped a LOT!

My hair is the same dry and brittle. That's why I went to roller sets for the summer!

I know exactly what you mean. My hair has never been this dry and brittle, it feels hard!

I can say my hair is making me frustrated and it is driving me nuts! I have done so much reading on curly frizzie hair that I should be an expert but I am not! There are so many products that you can go broke on trying them all.. agh

curly hair has its own life and the life is going thru now is making me crazzzzy. It needs help! lol someone stop it!

Can you give me the recipe i've got lot's of soy sauce and thinking of trying it. How do you do the stretch test (although i can tell i need protein even without it)?

I know some people who do this and love it.But they just rinse out a lil bit of it so that their hair wont feel oily or they rinse it then apply a lil bit as a leave in.Lot's of DC is needed also.HTH

PS: You and your hair looks fabulous ( i had to say that)

That works really well for me. I have to put a little gel in the front to control frizz though.

frizzbegone, I'm dying to go back to rollersets again, but we keep having thunderstorms on a daily basis.

I rinse with conditioner daily, but before I style my hair, I run jojoba oil through my hair. It never feels dry but it never looks overly shiny either.
