What is going on?!

Hello Everyone,
HAPPY 4th of JULY!!! So, I think I might be on the verge of a hair crisis. I don't know what's going on, but it seems that my hair is changing...for the worse in my opinion. I have a mixture of 3c/4aish hair (SL unstretched, BSL stretched) and the strands have always been fairly thick. However, while co-washing recently, I've noticed A LOT more shedding and that the lost strands were a lot thinner than normal, and lacking my normal elasticity. Can someone give me a clue as to what might be going on here? I'm still experimenting with my regimen and trying to find my HG products, however, this is what I've been doing recently:
- Co-wash 4-5 days a week
- Deep Treatment 1-2 times a week
- Boundless tresses applied to the scalp nightly

I also take the following vitamins/supplements:
- Prenatal vitamin
- MSM (just started taking these a few days ago) (1500mg)
- Vitamin C (1000mg)
- Biotin (300mg)
- Flax Oil (1000mg)
- Calcium/Magnesium

Could the shedding, thinning and lack of elasticity be due to the BT? I've heard that when you're not consistent with applying it or you've recently stopped/started, you're expected to experience excessive shedding...Or could it be the Flax Oil? I read a post a few days ago that said that taking this supplement may result in shedding as well? But I'm really concerned with the change in texture, thickness, and elasticity....Hopefully someone (or a few someones) will be able to help!!!! Thanks

Flax is very good for the body. it has the highest source of vegan efa's.

It could be stress related or also just be a passing hormonal phase (Sometimes the hair just sheds more than others).

But, if you find any patchy spots or an overall thinning, see your dermatologist to make sure it's not alopecia (auto-immuno) related.

Good luck.

Hmmm. I'm not really sure. If you weren't shedding so much, I'd think protein issues, but I'm not really sure... I hope you figure it out!

I have 3c hair that I haven't straightened in over 5 years. It's just past shoulder length when dry, and almost waist length when pulled straight.

Products:
9/02/08 Went CG
05/12/09 Still CG. Cowashing with VO5 Lavender Luster. I then condition with Giovanni Smooth as Silk. Styling with VO5 Lavender Luster conditioner with my wide-toothed comb.

However, I then experienced the symptoms of protein sensitivity, so I cut back on the products I was using that contained protein. Recently, a friend of mine suggested that I try her brand of hair cholesterol (Hollywood Beauty Olive Cholesterol), and my hair just ate it up. So I don't know what this means for my hair in terms of protein...

wow...that'a LOT of vitamins u are taking. Are you sure that all the excess vitamins aren't causing the shedding? Prental vitamins already have an excess of normal vitamins for women who are not preggers...and then u are adding stuff on top of it...that might not e the best idea.

Sulfur can be drying and BT is basically a sulfur/oil treatment. That's also a lot of MSM (sulfur) you're ingesting.

Flax oil is good for you.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.
I was thinking the same thing as QuirkyYogini, that its a protein/moisture balance issue... especially since you said that you're noticing a loss in elasticity. That sounds like you may need more moisture. Especially since as SBB pointed out - sulfur can be drying...

I know I've posted this link like 3 times, but it has really helped me to determine when I need to switch up my products: http://www.associatedcontent.com/art..._moisture.html

HTH!
mostly coarse texture, normal porosity... I think?

it amy be stress or hormones honey. your best bet would be to wear protective styles which cause very little stress on the hair for a while. such as a braid with not rubber bands or ponytail holders, or a loose bun with a headband. and make sure your hair is protected while you sleep. satin or silk surfaces or scarves only!!!

also when my hair was goin throught this i started leaving condtioner in. also use extra virgin olive oil as a sealant for a while because it's excellent in improving elasticity

Stress on the hair doesn't seem to be a huge issue either...when I bun, I typically don't use any hairbands, and certainly no rubberbands. When I do use hair ties, they are the ouchless, no pull bands and I don't pull them very tight at all. Any more ideas?

I'm with everyone who says it seems like you're taking too many vitamins. Overdose on vitamins and your kidneys have to work 2 times as hard to process them. You could cause damage after a while.

You have to remember that you get vitamins and minerals from the food you eat, PLUS the ones you are getting from the prenatal vitamins and every other vitamin you're taking.

Your body only takes what it needs and doesn't use/gets rid of the excess.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
