Is it too "rock hard?" I'm afraid to try it because I hate crunch!!

I find if I use a cream product under it or a leave in any crunch comes out fine.

I'm loving Ouidad climate control for when it's humid and hot... unfortunately that means i'll have to wait about 6 months...

But for cold weather I usually use Garnier spray gel, the curly kind. I forget the name.

whatever you do, AVOID herbal essences curling gel. it is sticky, heavy, and generally BAD. even tho it's cheap.

I loooooooove Biolage Gelee. I use it over Beauty Without Cruelty Revitalize Leave-In conditioner and I get "crunch" that is VERY easy to scrunch out once dry. .

Default Mop-Top anti-frizz gel

I'm a huge fan of Mop-Top gel (which they sell at curl mart). It's very lightweight. My usual routine is:

1. Light leave-in conditioner (currently Giovanni DLI; recently ordered KBB to try)

2. Curl cream

3. Gel (Mop-Top, scrunched in at the end).

Recently, I've been using QCCC for my curl cream, and Mop Top gel for hold. The Mop Top also encourages curl somewhat, so today I'm experimenting: leave-in + Mop Top gel (no curl cream at all).

The Mop Top isn't strong enough for summer hold in high humidity--it would probably need to be mixed with a little BRHG or CHI gel--but I love it for winter.

My current HG Gel for summer is Ouidad climate control (along with a leave-in).

You can buy Mop Top on curl mart; they sell a sampler of shampoo, conditioner, gel, and refresher along with full sizes.

Default enforce sculpting glaze?

Another thought:

I came across an old post (2005) from a curly who said that she preferred a gel called Enforce Sculpting Glaze to BRHG. I emailed the company (Scruples Hair Care) to get the ingredient list for the gel (and for their curl cream as well).

I don't recognize many of these ingredients, though, so I'm not sure if either product is CG:

Twisted Curl Creme
Water (Aqua), VP/DMAPA Acrylates Copolymer, Cyclomethicone, PEG-75 Lanolin, Glycerin, Behetrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polyquaternium-37, Propylene Glycol Dicaparate, PPG-1 Tricedeth-6, DL Panthenol, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Fruit Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Extract, Chamomila Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, PBX (Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans [Mucopolysaccharides], Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Benzophenone-4, Dimethicone Copolyol), Polysorbate 80, Phosphoric Acid, Hydrobromic Acid, Citric Acid, Glutaric Acid, Glycine Soja (Soybean), Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance (Parfum). *Protective Barrier Complex

Enforce Sculpting Glaze
Water (Aqua) (Eau), AMP-Acrylates/Allyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Polyquaternium-11, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans [Mucopolysaccharides]*, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein*, Benzophenone-4*, PEG/PPG-17/18 Dimethicone*, Polyquaternium-7, Triethyl Citrate, PEG-40 Castor Oil, Octoxynol-9, Tetrasodium EDTA, Potassium Sorbate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Limonene, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol, Eugenol, Benzyl Benzoate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Fragrance (Parfum).
*Protective Barrier Complex

Any thoughts, curlies?

The twisted curl cream has cones so if you're not using sulfate shampoo's this one could cause build up.

The gel has a water soluble cone and protein but if neither of those bother you it should be ok with just co-washing.

My favorite gels right now would have to be Angell or MopTop Anti Frizz.

The Mop Top gel is also one of my favorites, but I've even had to put that away for now because of the glycerin and honey.

I'm experimenting with glycerin-free products right now. Slow person that I am, after all of this time here, I'm just figuring out that my hair does not like glycerin when the dewpoint is very low. duh So far, my hair is LOVING KCCC.

I just started using it this weekend, but I am loving flax seed gel.

I'm really loving HEBE...the smell is ok, and once I scrunch out the crunch, my hair is really soft and frizz free. It's also really cheap which is good for my budget!

I'm currently using it over GDLI (or IQCCC, I alternate my leave in) and CK, and haven't had a bad hair day yet!

for those who use KCCC, how do you apply it? and does it give you a soft hold?

i love it on my hair (im a 3c) but never though to use it on my daughter (3a-ish) because i thought it would be too heavy.

Default Wow

After reading here, I'm convinced that the next purchases need to be KCCC and Fuzzy Duck.

So many prouducts, so little time.

My favorite gel so far has been Aquage Defining Gel.
I discovered this before CG and it still does better for me than what I've tried so far.

Jessie is meh. Deva is worse. Angell does very little for me. Like, why did I put a whole handful on for nothing? I was so looking forward to trying them too. I was expecting great results and it was marginal.

I am sticking with the Aveda Be Curly and the Aquage until I run out and discover something better. I checked them against the product list and they are okay - not perfect, but at least water-soluble.

I've seen a huge difference in my hair since staying away from sulfate shampoo.
Why didn't anyone tell me this until now? 41 years of dried out hair.

Default Herbal essences gel

This past week, I tried Herbal Essences for the first time, and had very good results. I tried HEBE one time, and HESMU spray gel the next. Both times I layered the gel over a leave-in (DLI) and a curl cream (QCCC).

Both worked very well, but I liked the HESMU the best. My curls were much bouncier than with the HEBE. I plan to do more experimenting, but I think HESMU might become my winter staple. I like it better than Mop Top for the winter.

BTW, the QCCC isn't giving me any trouble this winter, despite the glycerin in it. Maybe because it's vegetable glycerin?

AG Liquid Effects...a curly gave me a sample. Great both times I used it! Hard to find she said. I loved it. It was so runny that it went in great, super curl enhancement on the ends, that extra little curve, and not crunchy.
