Shea butter or oil?

I have 3c hair and I wanted to know what is better after your leave-in conditioner to moisturize and define the curls? I was thinking of getting some Jojoba Oil to mix in with a leave-in or would butter have better hold? Also I notice a lot of comments about products with 'cones in them, is that very bad for your hair?
I've done a few 'experiments' lately with sealing in moisture, and I'm in love with Shea Butter!!!!! It doubles as a sealant and styler...the hold is amazing, and its not greasy like coconut, grape seed or sweet almond oil. The oils break my curls/waves apart, but the shea enhances them, and holds them together.

i agree with curlynikki, shea butter is really great it acts like a pomade
for my hair, my leave in conditioner mixed with oil does the trick. butters leave my hair looking dull. mixing elucence mb conditioner with a bit of oil never leaves my hair greasy (i dont use enough to make it greasy) and the conditioner itself gives me hold. so i guess it all depends on your hair!

also, silicones tend to coat your hair and not allow moisture in. the water soluable cones are fine, but most arent, so you would need a sulfate shampoo to get rid of them. and sulfate shampoos tend to dry curly hair out. thats why alot of us tend to avoid cones as well as sulfates.
Guana@Subrock: that photo of your daughter just lifts my spirits whenever I see it.

Prettycurlie - I use shea oil on my body (in the shower) because it spreads better in water. For my hair (DT) I use shea butter over some other stuff. You can blend it with aloe vera or you can get it whipped. All raw shea butter is not equal. Some brands are rock hard, some are soft enough to use out of the jar if you rub with your palms.

Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.

Anything but a 3c

I just recently bought Hollywood Beauty's Olive Creme Hairdress and I'm really liking it. It's mineral oil free, and it costs about $3-5 for a 7.5 oz. jar, depending on where you buy it. I have used it on wet and dry hair and it is working like a charm!

Here are the ingredients in case anyone is wondering:

Water , Isopropyl Myistate , Soybean Oil , Olive Oil , Stearic Acid , Stearyl Alcohol , Glyceryl Stearate , Vitamin E , Matricaria Extract Chamomile , Calendula Extract , Vitamin B , Macadamia Nut Oil , Vitamin A , Coconut Oil , Rosemary Extract , Sage Extract , Vitamin C , Great Burdock Extract , Triethanolamine , Methyl Paraben , Propyl Paraben , Imidazolidinyl Urea , Fragrance , FD&C Yellow No. 5 , FD&C Blue No.

I have used coconut butter and shea butter, and I definitely prefer shea. I put it on after I put on moisturizer and gel, and my hair never feels weighed down or greasy. I love shea butter. I buy the unrefined one too.
Oh this is so sad. I've read so many posts where curly girls sing the praises of shea butter. I've tried and tried to use shea butter in my hair, but it leaves my hair dry and frizzy, especially on the ends. I wish I had the same success as most of you, but my hair does much better with the oils.
