Default First time in here! and shrinkage issues

My hair looks pretty 3b, but underneath is soooo curly and I get really bad shrinkage! I think I'm 3c. Problem is, ever since joining here, I've been on the 3b board. Now, I don't know much about shrinkage. I thought maybe you guys could tell me what you do about this? I'm so tired of my hair never looking any longer because the more it grows, the more it shrinks and curls up on itself, just making my hair look so triangle.

Also, reading some posts, I saw someone mention "sunburned curls". Could anyone explain this to me? My hair is constantly being bleached by the sun. Is this sunburned curls? What do you do about it?

Curlyjenn-

I like to use Kinky Curly products to keep my hair long. Jojoba Jelly is best, but Curling Custard also is good. There are tons of threads on these products, and hopefully others will weigh in! The combination of a creamy leave-in layered under a medium hold gel also works well.

Enjoy the 3c board! There is a lot of information over here, and some cool people. I tend to post in both places, but have a real fondness for the 3b board, which was really slow to take off way back when.

Hi Curlyjenn

I followed you into 3C. Thank you, you have me thinking now. I will try new products and see what they do. It is hard to know where to begin. Everyone one is selling something different. If anyone has ideas. I have 3B/3C hair with stacking and shrinking issues. I would like it to be curly but not so tight so it can lie down.

Well, I bought some Jojoba jelly. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it! I saw somewhere that someone posted a recipe for it.

Default My JJ experience!

Well, I have used the JJ over the last two weeks and it works great in combating shrinkage. I use it on wet and dry hair, even though it says to use on wet hair. I like to apply it over my Curls products on freshly cleansed hair. And then by itself, as an everyday hair refresher in between washings. I only use a little bit because I really want this stuff to last!

Hi! One of my first topics here was about shrinkage. The wonderful ladies recommended IC Fantasia Gel and it has really helped. Now I see my curls growing down instead of out! yesss!!!

I agree that Kinky Curly products will help with shrinkage and I LOVE Curling Custard! Also, Curlyjenn, your hair is beautiful! I always take a peek at your pics and have been meaning to tell you that.

Awww...thank you potterville!

I tried the Jojoba Jelly. I like how soft it left my hair and it made nice curls. I'm not sure I used enough, though. The underneath (curliest part) of my hair was pretty poofy and frizzy. I just used it alone, though. Do you guys layer it with something or just put more on the curlier parts or what?

Jojoba Jelly doesn't have any hold and I just use it nightly to moisturized. If I used it to style I'd definately use a product over it for hold.

CurlyJenn-

I'm glad you are liking the softness of Jojoba Jelly.. Potterville is right - it is NOT a hold product. It moisturizes and reduces bulk/volume, and does that in spades. It also leaves the hair soft. I use Jojoba Jelly primarily as a styler. After applying a dime to nickel size amount of a leave in, I layer over a nice scoop of Jojoba Jelly (maybe a quarter plus a nickle size amount?) mixed with just 1 drop of Biolage Gellee. That is my favorite way to use Jojoba Jelly, but you should play around with amounts and types of stylers. (For example, I also got awesome results once applying some Curls Whipped Cream on soaking wet hair followed by just the Jojoba Jelly with no gel and it was fine).

But I definitely recommend using a little gel over (or with) the Jojoba Jelly most of the time, especially if you are used to using medium or strong hold gels. The Jojoba Jelly is not marketed as a hold product and provides no real hold.

Ok, so this morning I put in the Jojoba Jelly and scrunched in some Biosilk RHG on over it. Holy-maroly! I can't believe how AWESOME my curls are turning out!! I wish my computer was working at home so I could post some pics! I have so many curls and they're so lustrous and shiny and not much crunch at all! Now, I'm loving the Jelly!

Thank you guys so much! Curltopia, you have helped me so much since I've been here! Thank you!

Where did you buy it? It seems to have been discontinued.

I bought it here at Curlmart. As soon as it was posted available, I went right over and bought some!

Now, it's out of stock and I don't know where to get more, either....
