Does anyone use Garnier Soft Curl Cream alone ?

I just purchased some for my DD because her hair is so dry.I've tried putting in different gels, and putting in oil moisturizers over the gels.Well, her hair started flaking up and I would have to use vinegar and baking soda to get it out. I'm hoping this soft curl creme will work with her 3B-3C curls. Also, if anybody has other styling ideas for when she gets out of the shower,it would greatly be appreciated.Thanks.

Ive used it alone. I thought it was kind of drying.

I tried it and it wasnt nearly strong enough for my hair

I like to apply a nickle size amount of Jessicurl Aloeba first, and then layer over about a quarter size amount of the Garnier Fructis SCC. I've never tried it alone, but probably it would work just fine alone since it provides moisture and hold.

Overall, SCC is one of the best drugstore stylers out there for curly and wavy hair. It is versatile, and judging from other threads, it works well for a wide range of curl types.

I've used SCC on DS and it does not make his hair has sheen. In fact, it makes his hair dull, curly, but definitely lacking in sheen. Maybe use SCC, but add a light liquid oil, like almond oil or jojoba oil. Also the flaking you see is most likely from the gels so try eliminating those.

Also what you may see as flaking may be areas where your DD's hair has become matted and an accumulation of hair product on that area will make hair look flaky. My DD has trouble with some areas that become matted so I use light oils on those areas. I've also noticed that even though I don't wash DD's hair very often, shampoo does a number on her hair, so from here on out, I'm sticking to baking soda/CO washes to minimize matting.

Good luck!

I cant live without this stuff! i layer a gel over top because I need my style to last a couple days, since I usually shampoo and restyle about once a week. It does make your hair very soft, so the gel serves as my hold to make it last. I agree with everything else the girls said above concerning your moisture issues.

CurlyLdyDT,thanks for the info.I've tried some Proclaim oil in her hair but it's not enough hold, that's why I use gel.I've used gel on her hair since she was 2 and it always worked,up until lately Ii've been having a problem with it.I do vinegar and baking soda washes on her hair more ,it detangles well, about twice a week. What do you put on your DD's hair besides oil?

Thank you very much!

I swear by Herbal Essence Extra Hold Gel! I have tried many gels, but I love this one! It is the only one I use, and it is the reason I can wear my curls for 4-6 days with out rewetting/restyling. This and the Garnier Soft Curl Creme is what I owe my curls to!

I keep her hair braided most of the time, but I take it down to brush and re-braid every other day. We don't do a lot of intricate hair styles because she's extremely tenderheaded.

Another concoction I've been using on DD's hair is extra virgin coconut oil mixed with jojoba, aloe vera gel, liquid MSM, glycerine, and a bit of beeswax to hold the mixture together. I started using this so that I could grow out her relaxer and it works well in smoothing her hair and minimizing breakage.

Maybe try a different gel just to switch it up a bit with your DD. Have you tried mixing a bit of liquid oil with the gel? You could try keeping the gel off for a week and and braid her hair with just a bit of oil to see if you get a different result when you use the gel the next time. HTH! Let me know!

i tried the garnier soft curl creme and ORS loc and twist gel for the first time today.
I have heard so many good things about these products, but it took me forever to try them!

I applied the soft curl creme and then the ORS gel over it and got pretty good results.

I don't think I would use the SCC alone, though b/c it doesn't seem heavy enough for my hair. But I will try it alone this weekend and let you know how it works.

I used it alone for the first time the other day. It actually moisturized pretty well for me. I am transitioning and it helped my coils and twists stay. There are pictures(crappy hairstyle but great twist out) in my fotki.

CurlyLdyDT,I've used Proclaim 7 oil with the gel before, but it was just greasy.I'll try it again or maybe alone and let you know. The gel I've been using is Vitalcare mega hold,I had been using it since she was 2 and she's 11 1/2 and full blown puberty. Her hair changed and it is shrinking up in the back, when it didn't before. It takes a couple of days but the gel dries and her culrs come out beautifully. I also used some Parnevu T-tree Growth Creme in her hair after 2 days, and it was more wavy.I just don't know her hair is reacting differently to different things. The only thing with the Vitalcare is that after I use what I bought from Big Lots,I'll have to order it and it's pricey Thanks for the tips.

Caleilani, the SCC alone doesn't have enough hold for me to wear my hair down. But it works good for a ponytail/puff. It really defined the curls and made may hair very soft. But if I wear my hair down. I need to put gel over it. HTH! I really like this product, thanks to everyone who gave it such great reviews. I hope it works well on your DD, let us know!
