What do you apply to your hair?

Do you have a set order of applying things? Like you might not use the same product but you use something that does the same thing? For example: moisturizer/leave-in, curl enhancer, and then gel/something for hold. I've only been natural for 2 weeks and I don't know what I'm supposed to put on my hair. I was just wondering what you ladies look for when you are shopping for hair products and where it fits in your routine. Say I want to use Aloe Vera Gel. Am I supposed to just put this on by itself after washing my hair and nothing else? Or am I supposed to put something on under or over it?

I use a leave in and a cream( or gel). Less is more, sometimes.

For Aloe gel, you should use a leave in underneath. Certain brands tend to make the hair feel alittle dry if a leave in isn't used underneath.

There really is no set way of applying products. You apply products and use products according to your hair's needs. If you hair needs moisture(most curlies do), always use a leave in under your styling products. If you want more of a natural look, you can use just a leave in and go, or use a cream styler overtop to give a slightly more polished look. If you want more frizz control and hold, use a gel over your leave in. This is what I do most of the time.

Right now, I wash with a sulfate-free shampoo once a week, conditioner rinse 2-3 times a week, use a Elucence as my leave in, and Curls Whipped Cream as my styler.

Creamier product first, crunchier product last, is my feeling. And I don't really believe in using more than two styling products, if I can help it.

During the Spring & Summer Seasons, I basically just use a gel styler. But during the Fall & Winter Seasons , I use a liquid leave-in, then a creamy styler & lastly a little gel on top. I always have to switch up my routine during the warmer months because it gets very humid here in Louisiana!

Moisture first, hold second. For example:

I'll spray on some S-Curl, then add my Fantasia gel.

I usually add oil or a moisturizer then a leave in or gel/ styling aid over that.

Thanks everyone! I used shea butter under the aloe and it came out nice. Too bad I can't figure out how to make my hair look right without a headband on but it looks very moisturized and the curls are defined.
