My hair doesn't curl?

So I have around an inch or two of new growth (I'm transitioning) and I was curious so I cut off the relaxed ends on a small portion of my hair... Well... I just looked at it and the ends do not curl. It's like my natural hair has a wave, but instead of forming a curl, it looks more like an "s". I have small waves as well, like it looks like I crimped my hair so...

What does that mean?! I had wavy hair when I was young, but I didn't think it was still wavy. What should I do? This is confusing for me because I was convinced that my hair was curly
An inch or two of hair probably wouldn't be enough hair to curl anyway. If you left one cm of relaxed hair then it REALLY won't curl. Give your hair a few more months before you check again.

Some of us have different textures throughout our head. If I had done that in the front of my hair I would've thought I had no curls either. My front doesn't curl at all and if I wet it and add gel it'll at least have a nice wave to it, but it took 11 inches of hair to do that. The rest of my hair curls. BTW some people have scab hair at the line of demarcation so that could be it too.

Transition a little longer and give your hair time to grow. If your hair doesn't curl at all, then I guess it would be up to you whether or not you want to continue being natural.

I completely agree with Maria.

My hair sounds like your description though. It looks crimped and wavy, rather than curly. I have s waves, and lots of them

I tried this same thing and both suggestions are great advice. Give yourself a little more time to grow and you will probably see a difference. I have very little curl in the front and I really have to work with it to make it act right. Sometimes scrunching helps too.

i agree with what everyone else has said. its probably still to early to tell what your texturewill be like when its all said and done.

the majority of my hair is S shaped curls too. no one would ever mistake it for wavy though.
I totally understand what you are saying. My hair is less curly and more wavy (hence my screen name). It became really clear when my length got to a certain point and what little curl I had turned into s waves.

I really envy those with tightly defined curls. I think my youngest daughter has this type and it's really cool.

There really is no point in worrying about hair type or curls while transitioning when your hair will rarely look like how it does with relaxed ends. Even still you may have scab hair that you'll have to grow out. Most of the time the hair comes out being a lot tighter that what the roots show.( Even if it is not much tighter it still won't be the same curl)

What I'm basically saying is that when you're transitioning you don't need to be overly concerned with your natural hair, like a natural would because you still have relaxed ends. Same with your relaxed hair. The main concern should be breakage. (prevention) While you still have to care for and learn what works for your hair you don't need to be concerned with curl defintion or hair type. Since it won't be the same when you finally chop.

I used to have these lovely mass of curly hair which used to be on most days frizz free except a few days. I use to use shampoos and conditioners without being too finicky (L'oreal, Pantene mostly). Since 9 months or not only has it tuned frizzy and unruly (everyday!) but the curls have disappeared and my hair is awfully wavy (the bad kind). I haven't changed my diet, so don't think it can be that. Not much of a lifestyle change. No climate change...staying in the same city. I have tried to cut my hair short with layers but nothing worked. I have tried umpteen number of curly hair products from shampoos to conditioners to frizz free leave ons - to no avail ;( (John Freida, Kerastase, Loreal Curl products, etc).

Please help!!!! They were my only assets!

I have noticed that my hair has changed with time. In my case its due to the climate change, hair length and my diet (or lack of) that makes my hair sometimes unruly. I can't think of anything else. Hopefully others will chime in.
