Bad Hair Product Ingredients

Can someone let me know of some of the top worst ingredients in hair products. Ingredients that could be harmful, smothering, etc. to hair. I'm looking to purchase new products to use on my hair, but I do not want products that contain harmful and/or useless ingredients.

Also, could some please tell me what ingredients are good for the hair that I should look for in hair products.

Thanx a bunch!!!

I think what you need to know is what products your hair responds well to. Once you know that, then you can determine what ingredients/products are "bad".

But some basic ingredients to avoid include petrolatum(petroleum) and mineral oil. These ingredients tend to coat the hair and block out moisture. Many ladies can use products with these ingredients with no problem, and others tend to experience limp, greasy, dry curls that lack in moisture.

Certain alcohols, such as ethanol, SD alcohol, SD alcohol 40, clcohol denat, propanol, propyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol, can cause dry and frizzy hair.

Good ingredients would be those that help maintain the health of the hair. Proteins(which can act as humectants that draw in moisture), humectants(honey, glycerin, aloe, etc), fatty alcohols(lauryl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol and behenyl alcohol, which act as emollients that soften and smooth surface of hair, etc.
These are good for the hair.

There's more, but I figured you can just read through the links below.

Essentially, it's a trial and error process. You just gotta find what works for you, because you ask 5 individual curlies questions concerning what's "bad" for them, and they'll most likely give you 5 different answers.
